I'm looking to get some Alnico 2 magnets to do some swapping in some pickups. I see that stewmac sells Alnico 5, but does anyone know where the best place to get Alnico 2 mags would be? Thanks

The Problem with most of the catolog magnets is there are Epiphone specs, not Gibson Vintage or current. so chances are you'll make your pup sound cheaper,

best to try to get them from: Seymour , Lollar, Wolfetone, Oc Duff, whoever is willing to part with them..these guys buy them to spec in bulk. Stewy and all Parts are just grabbing them from offshore and getting the same thing thats used in the offshore pups,, smaller sized, and usally not up to standard grades of AlNiCos

Gotcha, thanks for the info.

from : localhost/is a decent place to try, but it can be a bit more expensive and if I recall correctly you have to buy in bulk...

It sounds like he's also a fine custom pickup maker.. quot;each pickup is wound to spec for the customer on demandquot;. Sounds like he could make you basically anything you could ever want!

Assuming Steve still sells pickup supplies, get them from AMPGE. If not, Torres Engineering sells Alnico 2 magnets for $10 each...or at least, they used to, I haven't been to their site in a while. Allstar Magnetics sells high quality stuff, but if I recall you have to order $25 worth of stuff. The good news is that they discount the magnets nicely, I think you can get 7 or 8 for that price. You could probably sell the rest on Ebay or here on the forum.

Thanks for the info, guys. I appreciate it.

Any ideas about what a neodymium magnet would sound like? This one:

is about the right size, though it would need to be cut and might need a spacer as well.

Buy it, try it out, and make us all the wiser mate!
