'Way back in the early 80's, I went through a couple of Boss CE-2's; those were pretty much the standard for chorus back then, and I liked 'em. In the late 80's I bought a DC-2 Dimension C, the purple 4-button jobbie,that I still have today. It has an awsome chorus sound, but I'm not sure it's my sound. So, I'm thinking about trading down to a Boss Chorus with knobs.
There are plenty of all the CE- models on eBay, but I've only ever played the CE-2. Of course, those have the most vintage cache, which may or may not make them sound good, but it certainly makes them more expensive. Especially those black-label ones; black must sound a whole bunch better than green.
Anywho, there are also plenty of CE-3's and CE-5's around. They aren't as collectible, and are therefore cheaper. Since I haven't played either of them, I'm turning to youze guys.
How do the CE-3 and CE-5 compare to the CE-2? Same sound with additional features, or different sounds altogether? Do those extra knobs give me anything worthwhile, or will I end up setting them to get outta the way, and let the box sound like a CE-2?
Nobody can compare these?
I have the Super Chorus (light blue one) (I forget it's #), had it for a couple years now...
I think that it's a great chorus...most likely not the best...but it does have it's good points.
I like the overall shape of the sound, I like the tweakability factor, I like shimmering texture it leaves on my sound, I like blondes, I lke red objects, I like it wen girls put their hands through my hair, I like trying to get to my con...which is!!! ----
It doesn't have the warmth an analog chorus would...
But it's still neat. And I still play it . Soi you should!! SAM WANTS YOU!
quot;sorry for the ending!quot;
I can't tell you about these, but I must say if you are looking at chorus pedals, you owe it to yourself to check out an Electro Harmonix Small Clone. These things are the definition of chorus to me.
If you want a really strange chorus sound (but one that is infinately useful IMHO), see if you can find an old boss PS-3 pitchshifter/delay . . . it can make some really lush chorus sounds if you take the time to fiddle around with it. Plus they're probably pretty cheap now since they havn't been made in a few years . . .
I have the blue one too, whatever it is ... and also the Dimension C - a great pedal (don't get rid of yours!)
the little blue Boss is fine - I'm not looking for a chorus to fall in love with, but to color things a little occasionally
the other pedal I'd like to try is the Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus, based on the old Boss CE-1
