i know that they used to use some old peavey....but i forgot the name of the amp..(thought it was like the pacer or something)..oh yea, im refurring to the old skynyrd, not the new stuff...
Mace and Duce
thtas it thanks.
i find it weird that these things for for basically nothing...
I assume you mean that they go for basically nothing...and that's because the sound like crap...
I was shocked to see how inexpensive the MACE is. I figured they'd be considered quot;collectiblequot; because it's old and discontinued. Anyway, is the MACE that crappy?
well, i have allways loved skynyrds tone.....i would asume they couldnt sound that bad
I thought they used the old Peavey tweed amps, which actually sounded pretty good.

...actually bro, the Mace really isn't that bad compared to most of the other junk Peavey was churning out at the time... but it's definitely an quot;acquiredquot; taste and one that often is overlooked.... Peavey has always been quot;stigmatizedquot; by offering inexpensive amps....Even IF they made the most killer amp in the world back then, nobody would ever even tried one. Very few even know they made the most powerful tube amp ever made by any company (VTA800), although I would highly doubt anyone at the time would have ditched a Marshall for one!
Jeff Seal...this gives me a new thread idea!
I have some live footage of Steve Gaines period Skynrd and you see 100 watt Marshall stacks behind Collins and Gaines....They did use white Mace amps though and I've read stories where they'd stick a Marshall circuit or chassis into a Peavy cab? Not sure how true this is,but I Liked the band's tone overall through the years....I think they were pushing to get Peavy into the limelight some,but I'd bet their overall tones were based around the Marshalls....Rossington stated they were into Cream and alot of other british bands that were Marshall users...

One thing for sure... You can't argue with Skynyrds tone. Althought they are Associated with Peavey's I'd say the majority of their work was recorded with Marshall's and Fender Twin's. I don't doubt that Rossington's Mace was Tweaked to his liking right outta the box? Hartley Peavey is no fool. He knew the Skynyrd sound. I don't think they ever used Peavey's during the Ed King era? That takes you untill around 75' or the `Gimmie back my Bullets' album. If you think about it... That's better than half the(original) bands career. I saw Skynyrd in 91' Rossington had Breanice (59' LP) and his Mace and sounded great ! Ed King was useing a Pehn Shurlt;SPgt; and some kinda wierd Transistor amp??

Yeah I had a buddy in HS was a Huge Skynyrd fan and he ran a Peavey Mace, it wasn't the worst amp in the band though cause the oter guy had a Deuce........
Seriously I don't remember either of them having a bad tone at all but that was years ago and I had a 60wt. Crate so I wasn't making fun of anyone.

Pensa-Suhr ?
I know Molly Hatchet used Peavey amps (at least it says so on the cover) on their Flirtin' With Disaster album and I've always loved those tones. I've always seen Skynrd with Marshalls, though its only been old footage clips here and there--when I've even noticed the amps.
A guy i knew in a Skynyrd tribute act bought 2 soild state Fender Ultra Chorus amps in the mid 90's and ran them together! That and a an old 70's LP Custom that had the neck repaired and the finnish was all cracked all over the body... He raved about using those 2 Fender Chorus amps together!

What a band gets endorsed by, and what's mic'd up behind the stage backline are 2 different things. I'd be blown away if the peavey stuff was more than for quot;just showquot;
i've always thought it was funny on the 'one more from the road' live release how you hear Ronnie VZ say between songs 'Hell i guess we blew up another ampquot; ... rockin ' endorsement for PEAVEY , huh?
