Im looking for a new bass and I need some help. I play punk/pop-punk/rock and my budget is around $450. I was looking at a Fender Jazz and an OLP MM2. I know the fender is obviously better quality but the OLP wasnt half bad either. I like a punchy sound when I play and both it. I have 2 P-basses and a Mark Hoppus but I want a little more tonal variety. Ijust want your opinions on which bass would probaly be better. I just want something that will last long and not give out. Any suggestions are welcomed also. Thank you.

i have zero experience with the OLP's...but you can't go wrong with a fender!

Jazz.

An OLP will sound nothing like the Musicman it's modeled after. Different electronics, much cheaper woods and construction.

Keep in mind the Jazz has a 1.5quot; nut width, as you're running pretty much all P nut widths, it's going to make a big difference in terms of feel. I don't know about the OLP, as I've never been much of a fan of the Stingrays or Sabres to begin with.

Seeing as you have 3 very similar basses, you pretty much know what kind of sound you're after, and either a Jazz or a Stingray copy will change your sound drastically.

I'm assuming you're looking for a pretty tight, agressive sound; if you do go for the Jazz, keep your 'neck' pickup wide open and play with the bridge pickup volume.

IIRC, the Mark Hoppus has a P neck on a JAzz body with a Quater Pound P pickup, right?

Jazz bass necks feel like pencils to me. Especially if you're used to a P bass.

I'd look up a MIM Deluxe P Bass (on of the old ones). I found one for a friend of mine going for $150 at a local pawn shop. It has a P-Bass neck pickup and a Jazz in the bridge. It sounds cool, and look shte part with the candy apple red finish and the gold anodized pickguard.
