Please compare these pups. According to the specs/tone chart they look similar. One thing I'm intreged by is that it looks like the PG as a little more mids(true or not true). I'm thinking of replacing a JB in my LP with the PG.

cheers Primo.

the pg is kinda like a vintage jb in some ways, not overly bright but plenty of treble, great mids and a not huge bottom. the pg is more open and has more bite, love that pup!!

If you are going for a more versatile LP, definately go with a PG over a JB. I had the JB in my Lester, but it seemed that it was only working well when plaing with distortion.
Even then, it made every lick I played sounded like I was auditioning for an 80's hair metal band.

I then went to a Pearly Gates set and love it. It can cover everything from blues to rock, to jazz, funk, and even some country.

Thanks for the replies! One thing I shoud of mentioned is that I play ALOT of hard rock, but some classic stuff as well. In my #1 LP I have a DD and absolutely love the sound, in part because of the mids, but I've tried a DD in my #2 LP and didn't care for it because it was alot brighter than my #1 LP. I've since put a JB in there, and am pretty happy with it, but I would like a little more mids. This is why I was thinking of a PG. What do you guys think?

Cheers Primo.

I play a bunch of hard rock with my PG loaded LP and it romps.

You will notice a big change in output though. The PG is definately not going to push your amp's front end as much as the JB or the DD.

Do you want more high mids or low mids?

If you want more low mids, you might take a look at the Custom Custom as well. It'll have more mids for sure, and not be quite as cutting as a JB or DD. For more high mids and a tighter low end, I would look to the Custom.

I still think the PG is an excellent choice for a LP, but if you're coming from a high output pickup, you will notice a big change in your guitar.

It shouldn't be drastic. You'll probably notice a bigger change in output (and sound) by tweaking polepieces and overall height.
