Hey guys, I have a change to aquire a neck/mid position Hot Stack. I wondered what your opinions were on it. It it a dark, bright, or balanced pickup? And where would categorize it output wise?

If I aquired it, I would put it in a MIM Fat Strat (poplar body, maple fretboard) with a Cool Rails neck, and Tone Zone bridge. Its a rather bright gutiar. Would it match well with the other pickups mentioned? And lastly, where could I obtain the original style cover for it (exposing the rail, not 6 polepieces)?

the hot stack is a cool pup. hotter and more middy than most strat pups so itll keep up with the two you have in there but give you a strattier tone.

I am quite a fan of the strat hot stack neck version. The output is very similar to a normal sounding neck single coil, but the extra mids help it punch through a little more. It's round and chimey, and pretty sensetive. The no-noise factor is a definite for me. I have a hot stack neck pickup in my favorite tele

Thanks for the replies. I should be getting one pretty soon, and ill be putting it in the middle position of my strat, between a cool rails and tone zone.

I was playing with this one last time, (before I send it to you ), and noticed that this is one case where the numbers don't tell the story. The Cool Rails has a DC resistance of 9.4k with a ceramic magnet. The Hot Stack is 13.2k, also with a ceramic magnet. But the CR is definitely hotter than the stack. Even the Duncan chart show it that way and describes the Stack as quot;Very quiet, medium output glassy Strat.quot;

If I play the Stack by itself, with the volume tweaked up a notch, its a nice, chimey, clean sound. Mixed with either the neck or bridge CR, or both, is one of my favorite sounds. But if you just flip back and forth between the CR and the HS, without adjusting levels, the Stack seems mild and smooth.
