O.K. i picked up a Hamer standard custom (explorer) with a mahogany body and with a maple top and a rosewood fretboard and i need a bridge pickup ! it is coming with a zebra 59b but i want something with a little more kick . i play 80's hard - hard bluesy stuff my favorite tones are LYNCH / SYKES / MOORE / HAYNES thanks scott

If I were you, I would wait until I get the guitar. I would want to play it a bit before I tried to make any decisions about what to put in there. You may not need to make any changes at all.

oh im going to play it and wait a bit but i am not a big fan of the 59 in the bridge . in the neck i like it alot . in the bridge i like the medium output type stuff custom's / jb / full shred / el diablo / holdsworth . but we will see

Any of those pups you just mentioned would probably be alright. I'm with Rob, though. You may love it stock. Jol Dantzig (the boss at Hamer) and Seymour get together and work out which pickups go in all of his guitars, through discussion and a little trial-and-error if need be. I don't know why they picked the 59 unless it was for a vintage sound. But that may not work for you.

I've been really wanting to play one of those, but I haven't had the chance. Probably for the best or I'd be GASing to get it even more. Let us know how it turns out.

the 59 is ideal for the sounds of ALL the players you made reference to.

it is a 1995 and it came stock with a JB in the bridge and a 59 in the neck .

I don't own one (yet ), but it's an Explorer. Built better maybe, with better wood, and a fancy veneer, but an explorer nonetheless.

Best combo I've found in an Explorer is a Custom bridge/59 neck..that's if you do want something a bit hotter in the bridge. When I get mine, I'll most likely stay with the 59s that come stock in the current models ,as I prefer the lower output and less compression in my old age If the guitar ends up being a keeper, I'l prolly splurge on some Bare Knuckles for it. Though for some reason a double-creme DiMarzio Super distortion in the bridge and double creme Air Classic sounds appealing to me for that guitar.

I also agree though that a 59 in the bridge will do just fine for all the players you mentioned...Sykes is using PAFs these days since his Dirty Fingers gave up the ghost...if you've got enough gain in the amp, they work great for those heavier tones.

Nice score. If you decide you want something else, I'd be interested in the 59 bridge. I have zebra JB available if you'd be interested but like Rob and others have said, wait and see if you like it with the 59. If not, just PM me.

Well thats what I thought too at first....but then I was reading through the Hamer Newsletters last night looking for more info and it says it has a quot;veneerquot;....

Anyone know FOR SURE what the hell it is?

O.K. ! O.K. ! i'll leave the 59 in for a while . it's just in the past they never did it for me . but in this guitar it may kick ass!!(can i say ass) erik i'll let ya know if i pull it out .

jeff double cream all the way . i was thinking about trying bare knuckles at some point

We could call Jol up, he seems pretty accessible from what I've seen....of course we COULD have Evan do it since they're tight nowadays!

The Hamer webpage says flame maple cap.
from : localhost/www.hamerguitars.com/?fa=detailamp;mid=394amp;sid=196

yeah..they contradict themselves a bit...granted this is older...but...3rd paragraph in the article
The site just says quot;gorgeous Flamed Maple topquot;. It doesn't specify veneer or solid. As general as what the site says, it could be either one. The article is close to 10 years old so the only true way to know is to contact Jol.

Yeah...the GP review stated same thing..veneer, but a bit older...

I'll shoot 'em an email/call 'em since I get free long distance at home (still LD from where I live)

It WOULD make sense though they used JBs in the old ones with a veneer...and when they went to the cap changed pups to the 59...

hey jeff where in CT are you ? i'm in wolcott myself .

work in Norwalk..live in Danbury...

way things are lately though...I live at work

I used to go to an archery shop up in wolcott.....sportsmans outpost?

thats the place behind and below a deli or something right on rt69 ?

My '81 Hamer Special has a real maple top, if that helps.
