So, this past Summer the Boys In Brown managed to do some damage to a Greco Les Paul clone I was shipping. They settled and I got a full refund for the value it sold for, which got passed onto the buyer.

The pickups went into another axe I had hanging around.

However I still have the body sitting on a stand....taunting me.

I know if I had it repaired it would only sell for about as much as it would cost for me to have it repaired.

...which has gotten me thinking about repairing it myself.

The break is at the place you typically expect a Les Paul headstock break to be. It isn't snapped completely off.

Anyone know of a good reference online to do a repair or care to give me a walkthru/sage advice?

Dan Erlewine most definitely has some books and/or videos that could help you along. Don't ask me which one(s) you need but he definitely can help in that respect.

I'm pretty sure projectguitar.com has some stuff that'd be a good starting point. If you do it right, it'll actually be stronger than before the break. Basically, it would involver finishing the break (nerve racking) and just gluing it back together nice and clean. Clamp it tight and leave it for several days, refinish, and voila!

try these links........

from : localhost/www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/crack_neck.htm from : localhost/www.projectguitar.com/tut/crack.htm

Those links look great, but you might want to check out Frank Ford's Frets.com lutherie section. If you scroll down this page, you'll find multiple articles with pics on different neck breaks amp; how to fix them.

Hope this helps.

I've used the projectguitar.com method and had great results, I'd suggest checking that out.

I´d have to at least see pics before I could walk you through the repair.... and it would still be a tedious process
