after getting a 120 watt combo amp ive realized that for traveling i need something smaller than my 30 watt crate. ill be going on a cruise and to camp soon and i dont want to lug around a heavy amp in order to have good tone. ill be selling my crate for 250$. whats the best small amp i can get with solid distortion and just a good overall lead tone for under 250$. i dont really want to get over 25 watts. thanks
i just looked at a tech 21 trademark 10. seems like a quality amp and its 10 watts. any thoughts?
I would say look at a Tech 21 Trademark 10, or one of the little Vox Valvetronix ones.
Both 8quot; Speaker, SS, 10-15w, should be ideal for travelling, and they both get good reviews...

Got one (ebay ~$175, shipped). Love it!
I've heard good things about the valvetronix. Also check out the roland cube range. Lastly, Behringer make really good smaller amps with loads of digital effects if that's your thing. I think they're called the GMX range

Thanks, i should have specefied earlier that i really dont need alot of effects. just something small and basic with good tone. anybody tried the Orange Crush series?
hey you could check out the behringer gm108. it's basically a cheaper version of the tech 21 trademark 10
how abt the little 2-watt marshall? runs on batteries, you can use it on ur cruise.

dude, i have that amp. it's pretty cool. The bass isn't too good (what do you expect from a 2 inch speaker), but it's good enough for what i'm doing. Actually the best clean sound out of this thing is to put it on the OD channel and roll back the volume on single coils. It just sounds lovely. I use this while playing guitar in my truck on my lunch break at work. (i desperately need to get a 9 volt adapter for this bugger.)
i was like gassing for one (the 2-watt thingies) but am saving up for other gear. would be cool to bring to parties tho.

I've tried the vox and TM10. Personally, I think the TM10 has better tone. Get the vox if you need the effects built in...
I've also got that 2 watt mini marshall stack... very cool, very portable and super convienient. it even fits inside my guitar case. Its a cool amp for practice, but that tone will not impress anyone...
A Roland Cube definitely fits the bill. Whether it's better for you than a ____ is not a question I can answer.
thanks guys, im winding it down to the roland cube 15 or maybe the mini marshall. im still interested in the Orange Crush amps but havent talked to anybody that has tried them.
Do check out the Tech 21 TM10.
I have a Roland Cube 30 and a Tech 21 TM60, and the Tech 21 definitely has the better tones.
If you can get it for $250 then the Fender Pro Junior is a great amp with nice tube tone. Also there is a 10 watt and I believe a five watt Crate V series that sound pretty nice. As you can tell I am a tube amp lover. When choosing amps do what I do, waste a lot of your life playing every price range amp in town and something will catch your eye.
i just looked at the crate 5 watt v series. its all tube and usa made. looks nice. ive narrowed it down to the v series from crate, trademark 10, or maybe getting something cheap like a roland cube 15. thanks guys
Roland's Micro cube? must be real cheap, but if it's as yummy as my Cube 30 then it's a goody
