I don't really know what it is but I have never played a Les Paul that was comfortable for me. I refuse to make a blanket statement that Les Pauls suck because THEY DON'T, but I have never ever played one that didn't feel like I was holding on to a baseball bat. I love the way they sound and they are probably the best looking guitar made, but which one has a more comfortable neck? I am used to the neck on my tele which is thinner and not as bulky feeling. I have played Customs, Standards and have owned two Studios. I really want one but which direction do you guys suggest I go in the LP world?

You might like one with the slimmer, 60's style neck. Try a Classic, they have pretty slim necks.

I'm the same way the larger necks are a complete turn off for me. If you are looking at the Gibsons look at the the classoc (60's slim taper) or the the Standard 60's (same slim taper).

My Custom had a 59 and I never liked it, it was never comfortable to play, and I felt like I was the carpel tunnel poster child waiting to happen.

That said, before you commit play a Heritage. Mine has a neck somewhere between a fender and a 60's slim taper.

yeah...try one with a 60's neck...you've probably been playing the 50's necks...or you could try another LP type guitar...like a Brian Moore!?

also the Mccarty is more LP sounding than the SC.

I used to feel the same way about LP's, until I tried the Classic model. The neck profile uits me perfectly. Now you can have the Standard with the same neck profile as well.

sounds like you would like a 60's. there are two other profiles, but they involve a lot of cash just to see if you would like them. There is the quot;Real Feelquot; it is a 59 neck that is pre broken in, leaving it with a slight v to it. Then there is the 30k over 60 it is neck that is slightly bigger than a 60s (for people that want an in between neck). Both of these necks are found on historic reissues. the real feels are specific to quot;real feelquot; 59 reissues. I think Music 123 has the remaining new stock. i know that different years of historics have different necks. For what you are looking for stay away from 2001 historics. They tend to be fatter than the rest (I have a 2001 '59RI). The 2003s seem to be slimmer. the 2003 59 reissue necks feel a little thinner than the rest.

Now you say you play a tele. What neck profile? I have a tele with a 50s neck profile, and it is FAT. My 70s tele is much thinner.

My Tele is an American Nashville B Bender Tele. I love the neck on it!!!!

check out the Eclipse from ESP or the EC series from ESP LTD. it has tummy cut which provides more comfort to the traditional LPs. honestly i am more familiar with this than the Gibson/Epi LPs. Necks are just nice too IMHO. and as and added bonus, they come with 59/JB or EMGs.

How much would one of these run? I like the looks of them, but have never played one. Also are these American made or like all other companies do they have the US and import models?

BTW a new Heritage 150 is around $1000 less than a standard, but as many point out you gotta get used to the headstock.

LukeI agree about the headstock. There was a thread recently that you probably recall about ugly headstocks and Heritage was one. They are very unattractive to my eye.

The ESP Eclipse are MIJ. they are the high ends. there is no MIA. The ESP Ltd EC series is made in korea (the quot;import modelsquot;). they are kick ass especially the EC1000. too.

i'm not sure how much they run in the US but the the high end EC which is the EC1000 shud be lower in price than the LP studio.

for me they are interesting because they (Eclispe and EC1000) come with sperzels, earvana nut, tonepros brigde, duncans (JB / 59) or EMGs. and metal knobs . and extra jumbo frets.
i would love to get a new Gibson LP studio, rip all the parts out and get all the above mentioned parts into it. but that would be insane wouldnt it? not to mention very expensive
