What are your pro's and con's of floating vs. non-floating trems?
Floating lets you pull up and flutter...
Dive-only is easier to tune and set up, and especially won't go out of tune if you have a heavy handed palm mute or break a string. The trem-setter is supposed to fix these, but I've never used one.
On top of PFDarkside, if you attack the strings hard, they may not stay in tune on a floating trem.
THAT problem will also happen on a non -floater though if it´s setup to be a bit sensitive....
I prefer a non-floating trem, as it enables detuning without having to adjust spring tension to get the trem back in position. Saves you a lot of trouble. And the tremolo won't let you down when you break a string, enabling you to at least finish the song you're playing, for as far as possible. That's my main issues. I have two guitars with a floating Floyd Rose-style trem (JT580 and Edge) and an ordinary fulcrum-style on my Squier. The Lag has a hardtail Tele-style bridge by Schaller.
I have 5 floating guitars and 5 fixed or v-trems that have 5 springs tightened... I can use either. I generally play with a lightish touch on the floating ones. I don't likt the feel of blocked floyds, they seem un-necessarily stiff.
I also have a Kahler. I love the feel of them...
I have a floating on my MIM strat. I just like being able to pull up if I need too, it does have some quot;perksquot; to it but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I like floating, my MIM stays in standard tuning and I use my Squier with the bridge flat (and blocked) for alternate tunings.
