OK in the past i said when i was young and stupid i bought a nice 1994 Jackson Performer Reverse Dinky and modified the cr*p out of the neck... 24 fret guitar with a maple top,red sunburst, good imported guitar with 2 humbuckers! Very nice axe and much better then the newer cheaper Jacksons i've tried! Has been my main guitar for years....

Anyway i stupidly had a tech radius the fretboard and refreted the neck to work better with a Floyd Rose Original.... Long story but i years ago made the tech do the work as he was refusing to do it.... he tried to tell me it would not work. I want to take the FRO off and put the original trem back on as the FRO does not intonate as well as it should... low E string saddle will not go far enough back.... I want the FRO off it for a custom made guitar out of Warmoth parts..

Anyways the neck now has a sharper radius then the Jackson Floyd will allow... Someone i know gave me the tip that instead of sanding the tops of the frets to match the Jackson Floyd i should shim the Jackson Floyd to work with the guitar.... Makes sence.... I'll still have to use the FRO type nut but i could put the Jackson trem back on.....

I checked Stew Mac and did not see any Floyd Saddle shims.... Do Shims exist? Who carries them? Will i have to make my own shims out of Brass? Has anyone done this before and can you give me some pointers....

All Parts have the shims.

thanks for the links.. i wonder if they will work with my Jackson floyd.... Thw Jackson floyd is a different design then the FRO..... The Jackson has a low profile.... Same Floyd copy is also on some cheaper ibanez's

This afternoon i took the FRO original off my Modded Jackson... I added the Jackson trem back on..... It still has the FRO nut in place as it will take a lot of crazy work to get the old nut to fit as it is thinner and the string radius is much flatter. Too my surprise the 16 radius Jackson Floyd copy without any shims and with a FRO nut that is said to be for a 10 radius neck works well together.... Mind you my guitar has a good Compound radius to the neck. It works well enough that in the future when i give it a fret dress i can put the old Jackson nut back on. But for now i found it amazing that these odd ball floyd parts are working together and the guitar plays amazingly! Compound radius neck and compound radius string spread because of the differences in the nut and bridge.. Now that i have the correct bridge back on the guitar it intonates much better!

I had to leave the chrome floyd posts in place as i found the threads are really fine and the only Black replacement Floyd posts i have here are a much corser thread..... I didn't feel like pulling the machine sleeve achors out of the body.... Think i'll just buy some black replacement Floyd posts in black to match the achors threads...

But for now i have the FRO free and ready for use in a custom guitar where it will be put to better use then sitting on a guitar it's not meant for... Been thinking of making a strat body for it.... something along the lines of those EVH Charvel style guitars.... May make the neck or i may Buy a Warmoth maple strat neck with a Wolfgang contour..... time will tell what i do...

But after i put my Jackson back together and fired it up thru an amp i was reminded why it was my number 1 for over 10 years... It is a great guitar! Neck is paper thin... thinner then most as it has already had a fret dress and the neck was a Wizard thin type neck before the fret dress.... Almost feels like there is no guitar in your hand.... just strings.... Some say thin neck guitars have less tone... may be true but this one rocks! I have a 18 year old JB in the Bridge postion..... I may use that on my new custom strat with the floyd from this guitar... Put the Jackson pickup back... The original pickup is great and i have no idea why i added my old JB to it!

No

Would also work fine

The aluminum foil has the advantage over thin sheet metal that it´s even thinner, making it a bit more time consuming but more precise to dial in the height

Plus, it'll keep your guitar fresh, even in the freezer! Sorry.

I'll have to remember that Foil trick.... After getting reaquinted with my number 1 Jackson i find myself commited to return it to stock.... It is one great axe!!! Wish i had never done the crazy mods.... I'll try and give it a fret dress soon and make the tops of the frets a 16 inch radius to allow the original Jackson floyd nut fit back on the guitar... oneday it will need a complete refret but that is years in the future and at that time i could try and re-radius the fingerboard to a 16....

The brass plates would work fine. Remember Floyd Rose themselves supply these with their locking nuts to adjust the height! Would work equally well for shimming the saddles.

You could also just check on new saddles and get those in a flatter radius instead of your current set. Should fit just fine, I'm not sure on the pricing though.

Actually, I've found that a bridge with a flatter radius than the neck works well. If you set it up so that the highest strings are quot;followingquot; the radius and the arc of the bridge is moving up (or away) from the frets as the strings get bigger. The lower strings move more than the high ones when they vibrate, so this gives them more height off the frets to play cleanly.

Saddly the bridge i'm trying to put back on the Jackson is cheap Floyd copy and i have never seen anyone have replacement parts in stock for it... It has a Low profile and has short screws for the string lock and there is a long tail from the saddle that goes back to the fine tuners.. This same bridge can be found on new cheaper Ibanez's..... Not the best Floyd copies but they are not bad for sound.... As soon as i put it back on the guitar i noticed a slight increase in lows and mids... The FRO was more bright.

Side Note: Stock Performers and their trems /parts work PERFECTLY with Schaller FR II parts and trems.... I just dropped in a schaller trem and called it a day ... but it seems that you either have a professional with the jt-580LP (odentical in all respects including manufacturer with the TRS trems) or the trem was swapped before you got it

Parts: you can get a whole trem for about 50 bucks off ebay, that´s the price of 2 OFR saddles... many Jackson dealers also have a few lying around, if not they can definitely acquire them and / or parts for them.... If I have no problems getting parts with Fender´s more than whacked European distribution, in the US it should be a non-issue

Well last time i tried to get Jackson parts it was just before Fender bought them.... I think the company was up in the air at that point. Maybe now that they are part of Fender it should be easier....

Are Schaller FRII's the same bridge that Warmoth sells? heard a tech call the saddles on my bridge having a Whale fin for the fine tuners... The Bridge is stock as i have another 94-ish Jackson performer series Reverse Dinky in Blue with the same bridge.. After i messed my Red one up i was happy as hell i found the Blue one in great condition for only $300.. My red one was brand new when i bought it and it was over $800 Canadian at the time.... The same bridge that is on My Jackson is on the cheap Ibanez RG super strats..... (The cheap ones that look like a Vai Jem in White....)

I do enjoy the stock Blue one! It has a Maple board and my red one has a rosewood board... The blue one has a solid Basswood body and the red one has Maple top.... I have had my eye out for a green sunburst one they offered on the maple top versions... It looked stuning! Saw a Green one on EBAY a few years ago.....

PS-the string clamp screws for the bridge on my Jackson are short! Slightly longer then the screws for the Nut Clamps... The Screws have a little post on the end that fit in the string clamp block..... these i have hard time getting as i have a few i rounded over with allen keys... I ended up having to make my own and grind the threaded end down on the end of some metric Machine screws....
