Which pickup is closer to the jimmy page sound, The pearly gates or the 59'? Or will both give me a pretty decent representation?

Well...there is a Jimmy Page CS model but of the 2 mentioned I would go for the 59 set...

Jimmy was getting Antiquitys from Marcela in 2001 for his custom made Les Pauls... call her.. I think we once thought we figured out he was having Alnico 5's put in them????
A-5 Antiquitys would do some killer zeppy

Which Jimmy Page sound? He used a tele alot on recordings. Plus different amps. His tone changes quite a bit on various songs and albums.

The 59s are the closest. The custom Shop JPs are slightly hotter than the 59s and I mean slightly.

I have a set ot the CS JPs and they do get all over his tone on a number of songs but as was said, JP messes with his tone a bit in the studio.

He used Teles,strats,and Danos,but I think we'd all agree that his signature tone and guitar,has been the Les Paul..

On the schematics for wiring pickups for the 2 tone, 2 volume and 2 humbuckers(les paul) what is the spdt on-on, dpdt on-on, or push pull pot thing? My guitar does not have one. What do I do with that extra wire?

If you do not want to do series/parallel or split coils (i.e. keep it stock) solder the Red and White wires together and tape them (to prevent shorting out) and wire it just like stock, with the Green going to ground and the Black going to the volume pot.

I know about em,but the JP signature guitar is based on his 59 Les Pauls after the early Zeppelin 1st album...Heartbreaker was all about the LP also...

When I play my guitar there is a loud hum when I have my hand off any metal on the guitar and when i put my hand back on it stops as if im the ground. We have ran a continuity test and all metal object are grounded to one another. Im stumped like a chump please help!

You said they were all grounded to each other, does that include the bridge/etc? Check continuity between the sleeve of the jack and ground, and the bridge and the sleeve.

Yes i checked all of them. Theres only one wire running to the input jack is that normal?

Guess I was right....Read this! I also recall reading about an extensive gear listing in one of my Guitar World magazines...The issue showed talked about every guitar and amp Page used from the first to In Through The Out Door...Alot of folks also didn't realize Page's use of the strat on the quot;Presencequot; album..Later again with the Firm..

If it is true, then no, that's not normal. Pull out the jack (unscrew the plate on the side) and check to see if it's actually a shielded wire with the conductor going to the tip terminal and the shield going to the sleve terminal. The solo to stairway Page has stated was Tele,but I remember reading Page say he created Heartbreaker because of the ease of the hammer ons and just being really into the whole feel and tone of a LP through Marshalls...That second album and on is pretty much LP and 100 watt Marshalls from lots of articles I've read...This is my favorite band and I know an awful lot about them!

That's what I thought I've read also. I heard Heartbreaker was him plugging in for one of the first times, hitting record and just jamming.

Yep....We've both read the same articles! LOL

If you play along with the song you will notice that at 2:12 when the solo starts you will be slightly out of tune showing that he solo was later dubed and it was done with a different guitar, not to mention that the tone of the guitar is drastically different. If you listen starting at 2:07 and going until 2:12 you can hear Jimmy bending the strings behind the nut (try that on a Les Paul) the solo ends at 2:48 and you wil notice that if you are playing along with the record you will be back in tune now. Another solo starts at 3:07 and ends at 3:39, this solo is in tune with the rest of the track and has a very different tone from the first solo (2:02-2:48). The first solo is just Jimmy and a Telecaster (I have no idea what amp he is plugged into) and the second solo (3:07-3:39) would be the solo on a Les Paul.

I guess we are all right!

Does anybody else see/hear it like that?
