I want to get an all purpose wah and the Vox V847 sounds nice and I'm pretty sure I've seen good things about it around here somewhere I just want to see what people have to say before I go and blow my money on one.
bump!
Better.....The Fulltone Clyde wahs..
The Vox V848 (the Clyde McCoy reissue model) is better than the V847. It has a warmer more vocal quality to it and also comes with true bypass. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.
I dunno about the V848 I was listening to the clips on the vox site and although the Clyde is nice I just preferred the V847 overall.

Do you know where I can get some clips of one of these?
I had a stock V847 that was a tone sucker...big time. I now have a Dunlop 535 wah that sounds much better than the V847 IMO. It's not a Fulltone, but not bad either!!
I have a 847. Its a very good Wah. The pots in them don't last very long though. I burned out 2 of them. I also have a Clyde McCoy and a Vintage Crybaby from the 60's. The Crybaby is on my board at home the Clyde is on my Gig board. The 847 is on the shelf right now.
The best thing you can do is buy the 847 and send it to Stratdeluxer 97. He will make it sound better than any other Wah out there period.
I sent him my Crybaby that I had for a long time but never used because it sounded like KAKA. John worked his magic and now it is my main Wah.
I also have a hard time listening to clips. After all you are listening thru little PC speakers. My preference would be to go to a music shop where you can plug in to one to get a better feel for what they sound like. If money were no object the Fullerton Wahs are probably the most vocal out of the box I have heard. I think my modded Wah is very very close to that sound. The Clyde Wah is a good choice also.

Nice plug Dave....Funny,only the eccentric(players with money)get the Stratdeluxer97 wah treatment...LOL I don't mod alot of wahs as a rule.
Hmm after listening to the voxes again through my amp I'm not sure which I prefer so I'm going to see if can have a go with them somewhere. Stratdeluxer 97 could you tell me how much it would cost for you to get and mod me those pedals? Rather than me buying one and shiping it out and back. This is of course if you don't mind doing it. Cheers.

Yep...the Fulltone Clyde is better. Although STRATDELUXER97 modded two or three of my Vox 847's for me and they now equal the Fulltone Clyde in tone. Lew

Cool thanks Lew. The Fulltone looks quality but with a quick google search of UK sites it looks like not many places sell them and one that did was selling it for £250!! I want to see what STRATDELUXER97 has too say and see if I can try out at least the voxes.

I never quote prices under forum topics...Keeps the trolls out!
...At the moment I'm not shipping outside of the USA...The paperwork and extra customs wrapping drives me crazy!

Ok thanks anyway STRATDELUXER97. Is there any possibility you could tell me how to do the mods or do you know of anywhere that I could find out how to do them?
Check out this site...

The guy is in the UK and does mods if you don't want to do them yourself. Haven't dealt with him at all but the site looks good.
I have a Stratdeluxer modded Vox 847 and it's the dogs danglies
I won't say what the price is (in respect to John and forum rules) but it was alot cheaper than the price you quoted for the Fulltone Wah

Thanks buddy....Lately I've just not been wanting to deal with outside USA shipping...There's alot of extra time and hassles with customs forms and having to double wrap with brown paper, plus I have to wait in line at the post office instead of quickly sending out a package at the computer...I've been busy doing alot of different things lately and I just don't feel like the extra hassles right now..I really need to charge more for the out of USA shipments for these reasons..
Thanks everybody. Stratdeluxer what do you think of the mods on that site? I'm going to see if my local guitar shop has any of the pedals in tomorrow and give them a try.
Without doing anything else to your wah,the best two mods are to put the right inductor in there and a Fulltone wah pot...After that I use my own ears and I always have my own mod ideas..A wah is a filter and any changes you make are a change in how the filter works.I'm also a big advocate of using board mounted trimmers for my adjustments instead of the resistor changes..Once you use the trimmers to dial in the wah and your sweet spots, that's the time to use the actual resistor values....

Thanks alot STRATDELUXER97. Just a quick question, what is the difference between a trim pot and a normal pot?
