True bypass isn't totally 100% necessary. Some of them have really good bypass buffers, Boss being one of them. A buffer in your chain is actually a good thing so it can recover lost signal from your cable runs. That said, check out this thread: from : localhost//forum/s...ad.php?t=56807

I don't have much experience when it comes to chorus pedal. I have DOD75C Stereo Flanger for chorus application. Although it is a flanger, it is very chorusy.

Nevertheless, the problem is that it makes the dry signal dull when it is off, and this makes the distortion sound less defined.

Speaking of good buffered pedal, I have a Crybaby From Hell pedal. It is the first pedal on my chain and I don't mind using it, because it sounds 99.8% transparent. However, I do not consider Boss pedals to be good buffered one. My GE-7 , for example, cuts down midrange frequency when it is off.

I've found most of my Boss pedals to not be a problem when bypassed. Only my SD-1 really showed any affect on the bypassed tone because some of the overdrive is still present, very very faintly, but it's there. Layout issue somewhere on the PCB.

Look for one of the chorus pedals mentioned in that other thread. Since you have a few pedals that seem to quot;suck tonequot; right now, a simple outboard buffer until will solve the problem easily. There's one on General Guitar Gadgets. Very simple to build. Put it at the end of your pedal board before the cable that goes to your amp and listen as your tone comes back to what it should be. I've built this one myself and use it in my effects loop after my delay and chorus pedals.

Cables can also affect how your bypass signal sounds. A high resistance/low capacitance cable will suck more tone than a low resistance/high capacitance cable. A good George L, Planet Waves, even Spectraflex, will improve the sound.
