hi everyone, i am just a beginner, a net friend said this is a good guitar, but i really don't know if it is..........

i own an epiphone G400 custom, so if i bought this guitar, will it better than my g400?

i usually play pop-rock and sometimes heavy style songs.
thx

depends on what's your defination of better. imo, the fat strat is a versatile guitar that can bring you from pop to metal. how much is it going for?

it's a second hand goods, about $us 300

i am not sure if that's a good price for a used mexi fat strat. price aside, if that baby plays well, its a keeper. as said, way more versatile than your epi g400. you can do almost everything on a strat.

SG and strats are wayy different beasts.. the feel and sound are totally different. in addition to that your SG is fixed brigde and this had a trem on it. do you need/ like a trem?

for me, i don't really need a trem
but i get confused that why this fat stratocaster only has 2 controls(volume/tone)?

i see that most of the stra. has 3 controls and i can't find another stra. with 2 controls, can anyone tell me?

IMHO dun get a trem axe unless you want to use it or want to learn to use it.

2 controls = 1 tone 1 volume. cant tell you why they made it that way tho.

maybe the strat has an aftermarket pickguard?

Yes, better than your epi, its a Fender Standard Fat strat with a Floyd, just... the Floyd may be a pain in the ass at the start, but onceyou get used to it it'll be fine, That guitar looks soooo nice, where is it?

the reason it only has two tone controls is because it was probably made between 1983-1985, when Fender did alot to cut down on production costs. I say go try the guitar out (unless it's on ebay), and see if you like it. A good setup by a decent repair tech will put that thing into great playing condition.

Well, I just did a run of the serial number, and it says that the guitar should've been made 96-97, but I'd take the neck off to make sure it's not dated earlier, since Fender info isnt the best around. If it was made from 96-97, then my guess is it's an aftermarket pickguard.

Nope. The serial number dates it as built in 1996. Here's how modern Fender serial numbers break down:

First digit (letter) = country of origin. In this case, quot;Mquot; is for Mexico
Second digit (letter) = decade of production. quot;Nquot; is for 1990's.
Third digit (number) = last digit in the year of production. 6 = 1996.
Remaining digits = a unique number identifying this guitar.

Also, there were no Mexican Fenders until around 1990 or so.

I am guessing this is either a short-lived production model, or someone took a Mexi Strat and modded it.

I would say pass on this one. You can do better.

YOU CAN BUY THESE NOW!!!!!!! Brand new!!! This one (^^^^) is NOT modded and is NOT a short lived production model
here:

from : localhost/it's available in white which is.... o geez.. THAT colour.

It's worth over $600 new.
.The only thing different about that one is it's one tone knob.

plus the tuners and pickguard. notice the height adjustment screws on the left of the humbucker.

I didn notice the hardware too.. but what about the height screws??

Okay, so I was wrong (I did say I was only quot;guessingquot;). You didn't need to be such a jerk about it.

I wonder why they decided to go with 2 knobs. Most of the other Mexi Strats built at that time had three knobs (I have one).

haha.. srry dude, didn't mean to come across that way, just wanted to get my point across.

so...any conclusion about it??
and what's the meaninf of quot;aftermarketquot;?
thank you~^^

aftermarket = parts purchased separately from the quot;stockquot; instrument. Stock means how it comes directly from the factory. Seymour duncan pickups for example are aftermarket parts, unless of course they come equiped on a guitar.
