Guys,

I am building a Strat with HH pickup configuration. I plan to use a Megaswitch to split the humbuckers and have different tones. I do need to decide which Humbuckers to use. I just cannot decide what to use.

I wanted a JB at the bridge and an Alnico Pro II in the neck. However the Alnico Pro II seems to be out of stock or discontinue from the web sellers (like Musicians Friends and Samash).

Any cool suggestions out there? I bassically want to have a well rounded guitar that can deliver the goods for both aggresive as well as soft music.

Also does anybody have any success story of placing bridge humbuckers at the neck position? Is this quot;worthquot; looking into?

Thanks for your help guys

It really depends on the sound you're going for.

If I were to give you a suggestion based on versatility, I would recommend a Custom for the bridge and a Jazz neck. The Custom can produce a good variety of rock tones, also splashing in Metal while at the same time providing some decent Cleans. The Jazz makes a good match with just about anything, and (in my opinion) holds the title for the 'clean-up' neck slot.

The JB has been called an iffy choice in alder, for it can be a little shrilly. Personally, however, I like the sound of a JB in an alder body. I've always matched it with a rosewood fingerboard to ease the brightness, and it has produced some exceptional tones. Make sure you check it out before you jump into the JB though.

zzounds has the AIIPro neck from : localhost/recommend them over Musician's Friend any day.

EDIT: How'd I forget Lew? I've even bought pickups from him.

The classic set up in a Fender type guitar is the Jazz neck and JB bridge...that's Seymour's favorite combo.

In my Strat I use the Pearly Gates neck and 59 Trembucker.

The Alnico 2 Pro would be another excellant choice for a neck pickup...perhaps with a Custom Custom as the bridge pickup.

I have all of those pickups in stock, BTW.

As an upstanding new member of the forums, buy your pickups from lew....

I'm thinking along the same lines. 59 Trem bridge/ 59, Jazz, or PG neck.

JB sometimes sounds too compressed in a strat
C-5 sounds good, but a tad hollow in strats
Custom is good, but can be a bit 'too metal.'

I have a CC/APH in my double fat strat, and I absolutely love it. Wouldn't trade it for any other combo out there...it's that good.

I have a squier fat strat with a JB in the bridge and i love it. I haven't tried any other pickups (don't feel the need to right now) in it yet. I split coiled it and it gets great blues/rock tones.

just my 2 cents
