Okay, love LP special/Mcsoap tone and scale length. Prefer fender aesthetics and ergonomics. So here's some ideas I'm tossing about.

...and an oldie:
whaddaya think?

I like the last one a lot. I think you should consider something like the Squier '51 pickguard.

I don't have any decent photos, but I had a black strat built back in '92 that had a '51 style pickguard. So already have that covered. Do really like that style of pickguard, though...

I really like the small SG-ish guard on those, and definitely like the last one and the nearly identical Strat one third from the top the most. If it were ME, I'd go with a normal headstock, unpainted, but reverse black is cool too.

Question: How come only one knob on the Tele version?

I think I put up too many choices. I'll whittle it down.

The maple neck one was done ages ago. I'm a huge fan of maple boards, but I'm thinking that a mahogany/rosewood neck would give me a fatter tone, hence the newer designs. Some of the influence comes from my tele custom, which may end up looking like this shortly:
The tele has one knob because it looks cool. I'd have to have a tone knob though. Kisekae's tele knobs are a bit oversized and funny looking, I reckon.

just tried the '51 pickguard. not feeling it.

Fender makes something like that in cherry mahogany. I've wanted one, but I've already got more guitars than I need. Maybe you should try and find a PRS McCarty soapy SE from Korea. They're about $450 US. Nice fat necks too.
They're my favorite inexpensive P-90 guitar.

Yeah, the strat-o-sonic is very cool. I've been toying with getting a s/h one out of the states. It's not ideal, though: I'd like a fatter mahogany neck with a gibson scale and a top mounted toggle. Still, may end up getting one.

I like the soap SEs but I already have an LP jr. And you know I love Mcsoaps, it's just there aren't any s/h ones floating around NZ for me to swap my CU22 with. Though right now, I'm thinking of offing the CU22 for a 335 or similar.

This exercise is about boiling it down to my fave aspects of everything into one guitar. I'd have to get it custom built, but it may not be that expensive...

fender also makes the TC-90 which is in that ballpark.
They also had the very awesome Tele Jr's out of the Custom Shop but they are a bit precious price wise. I like the middle one you did there, reverse stocks rock and the stoptail is hip.

Not so sure I like the guard though?

You know what you might run across that are pretty cool are the ESP Hybrids no soaps but you could get creative I am sure.

yeah, I played a CS Tele jr a few years ago and it was outstanding. One of the best guitars I've ever played.

They're chambered too which is kind of neat. I came real close to grabbing one but chickened out on the $1900 price tag but it was a hell of a guitar.

Hope you can mate! Perhaps no pickguard?
