Is the Jazz neck and JB bridge a good combo for bringing out the character of a Les Paul?

I think that the JB especially colors the tone of a LP too much (it did when it was in mine ).

I don't find the JB to color the tone of my guitar more than any other pickup... If your guitar has a really good clean tone, as it should have, a vintage output set would be better for it.

The Jazz and JB set is killer, especially if you play mostly rock guitar and use a semi-clean/semi-distorted or overdriven tone most of the time.

That set also splits for single coil tones better than any other I have used.

For cleaner blues, ramp;b or pop tones, especially from the neck pickup, I like the Pearly Gates or Alnico 2 Pro or Seth Lovers better.

But for rockin' out, the Jazz/JB is a great set of pickups in a Les Paul. It's my #1 selling humbucker set.

1. The Jazz in the neck is pretty nice, but I'd avoid the JB and go with what Benjy mentioned if you really want to bring out the character of a LP.

The sound of the JB in a LP is good for what it is, but IMO it kills the quot;truequot; tone of a Les Paul. I had one put in a LP of mine years ago, and had it swapped out within a week with a Custom. The only LP characteristic that remained w/ the JB was the sustain. The Custom is a better choice, IMO if ya need a quot;hotquot; pup.

Mine's a Burstbucker 3 with an Alnico 3 mag in the bridge, custom-wound (7.0k) Phat Cat in the neck. So far, so very good...

Another good choice is a Alnico and a 59

Yet another would be a matched set of Antiquities

I'm very partial to Antiquities in a LP, but Seths, '59's, amp; APH-1's are the quot;bombquot; as well

I have hot guitars. Ive decided that I want to maintain the sweetest sounding Paul tone. Ive played 59s and like. I worry they would sound to bassy??
I love Slashs tone so Im considering AP2s.
What do antiquities sound like?
What do Seths sound like? Thing is, Id prefer potted pickups as I play with tons of gain..
Anyone ... Thanks!!

The Alnico II pro's would be a great set in that thang!!!!

I have never liked the sound of a JB in a Les Paul.

Ok, before anyone gets mad at me here, I am sorry but I just dont like it!

A set of Antiquity's are allways a good bet IMO.
