First Off, i Find myself getting into heavier stuff again to the point of i am playing doom type stuff all the time, so basically looking for an amp with more gain. Heres the criteria :
- Decent cleans, i play clean parts in alot of songs.
- LOUD!. I want something louder than what i've got right now(check sig).
- More gain on tap than my current amp(check sig again).
- Must be *Under* 1200$ canadian, not quite sure of the price in US.
Thats about it, im not looking for a whole lot i dont think(compared to what some people are looking for). My music as of right now is basically this, Candlemass, Worship, My Dying Bride, Cathedral, Black Sabbath,
Electric Wizard, Fall of Empryean, The Living Fields, Witchcraft and Place of Skulls, plus my own stuff which is more on the candlemass side. Thanks in advance.
You might try replacing the speakers with newer, higher fidelity ones for more clean volume . . . Eminence makes some pretty good ones . . . and for gain you could always get another pedal . . .
Used 5150 or XXX, or a Laney.
I would look into a Canadian built amp -- get the most for your money!!

Yeah, i was actaully thinking that a XXX might be a good idea, and i dont think i can get laney's around here, sadly.Originally Posted by TwilightOdysseyI would look into a Canadian built amp -- get the most for your money!!
what would you suggest? the only amp made in canada i know of is traynor but there not really built for what im playing.
Maybe it's just me, but I think something like Randall might be a good idea. They make pretty inexpensive heads and they can get pretty brutal. Most Randalls have solid state in them, so they tend to be tighter in the bottom end than others (something I feel is a good trait for low tuned guitars).
A 5150 may do the trick as well.
You don't really want something very USA sounding for doom. A Marshall, Laney, Matamp, Orange type thing will do the trick. Or of course a Sunn, if you can yet your hands on one. The XXX and 5150 will probably be a bit modern sounding for doom uses. Thats my experience anyway.

If I were you, I would at least check out the Traynor Custom Valve 50BLUE as it's designed to be a higher gain version (i think) of the YCV-40 which gets rave reviews.
It may not look very metal but I think it's features are top notch. Since it leans towards more of a marshall voicing, it should be great for the style of music you play.
I'd be after one if they weren't so damn expensive and rare here in Australia. Since your in Canada it should be very affordable.
how much does 1.2k canadian convert to us$?

Yeah, i just thought of that. But marshall's are overpriced, i would LOVE to have a Matamp/orange, but i couldnt afford one, and i cant get them around here. And about the YCV40 Blue with El34's i am gonna try one of the 2x12 versions tonight.
My opinion is probably biased since I own one of these but the Carvin MTS 3200 100Watt combo does the job for me and I play Heavy Metal to rock...from Megadeth and Metallica to Gn'R and ACDC and this amp can do it all.
Its got more gain than you can shake a stick at but as soon as you switch to the clean channel its like a whole different amp.
I'll try and get some clips up for you in the next few days if I have time.
You could always check out Line6 stuff. I just picked up a Spider II 212 with the shortboard for about $800 US. With all the presets in the floorboard and the 12 amp models you've got versatility out the butt. I wasn't always a fan of Line6 but the new stuff has impressed me. I also have Mesa Single Recto half stack which I love but the Line6 is really giving it a run for it's money. You can dial up anything on a Line6. With their new amp modeling it sounds really close if not identical.
