i have a peavey backstage plus 1x12. it has four input jacks, quot;inputquot; quot;phonesquot; footswitchquot; and another that i just dont have a clue as to what it is for. it is labeled quot;pre-out/ pwr inquot; . someone tell me what this jack is for please.
how old is the amp? those are usually fx loop
i think its one of the older ones, but i am not sure how old because the metal serial number plate on the back is gone,(the plate is there, just not the overlay with the sn info) it is made in u.s.a. and has the old style(think 70's and 80's peavey) type covering, the really hard rubery textured stuff. it has the old style black face plate and logo with all the push/pull knobs on the pregain and high eq knob. on the gain section it has 3 knobs, pre-gain saturation and post gain, with the pre gain having a push/ pull for thick and on the eq side it has low mid high, with the high being push/pull for bright. then it has a reverb knob. it is rated at 35 watts and a jack for the footswitch in the back(i didnt get a footswitch with it) it has an unlabeled (label had been peeled off) 12 inch speaker with a huge magnet (almost like an old e/v speaker magnet, but not quite) the rest of the input jacks are on the front. i am sort of curious about the amp because all of the backstage plus amps i have seen were 10 inch speakers and considerably smaller than this one. at first i thought maybe someone had built a new cab, but on the inside of the amp it has factory markings from peavey. either way, it has awesome tone for a small peavey and for $45 bucks, i couldn't pass it up. i was just wondering mostly what the quot;pre out/pwr inquot; jack was for.
I'd guess it's a stereo jack for the effects loop, and is meant to be used with a Y cable.
From the operating guide...
PREAMP OUTPUT/POWER AMP INPUT: To allow in-line patching of battery or AC powered effects and signal processors, we have incorporated a simple out/in jack on the front panel. The out/in jack (post EQ) is a 1/4quot; ring/tip/sleeve configuration where the tip portion of the jack serves as the preamp output while the ring acts as a poweramp input or return. The sleeve is ground. A typical patch for this out/in jack would be to utilize a quot;Yquot; cord and connect the output portion of the quot;Yquot; to the INPUT of the device. The return portion of the quot;Yquot; in then connected to the OUTPUT of the device which will return the processed signal to the BACKSTAGE PLUS. It is also possible to insert a shielded patch cord with a mono plug (tip and sleeve only) into the quot;first clickquot; position and obtain a pre-amp output signal for patching puposes only without breaking the signal flow from the pre-amp to te internal power amp/speaker system.
That's a nice little amp that I bought in 85, it's a shame that I only have the operating guide. Hope that helps ya!
