Sometimes I love the way it sounds, sometimes it sounds like there's downright something wrong with it. I can't tell if it's my ears not being able to adjust to it yet or if it's the unusual frequency spectrum the amp puts out. It's a very loud amp too. Anyone else use one of these before and can offer an honest opinion on them? I've owned it for about 6 months now too, I've been giving it a chance to meet my approval. lol

Did you put the stock pickups in the waste basket yet? hahahaha

I recommend a set of Duncan pups before you throw in the towel.

ummm guy's he's talking about his amp...not the guitar...so i don't think duncans in or on the amp will help lol.

You can't put pickups in a Carvin Halfstack. If you try that, let me know what it does to the sound!!!!

Seriously though.

Steve Vai has a very signature sound. I would never get the JEM Ibanez or the Carvin Legacy. It's just totally specific to his playing style.

I'd go through les paul/strat through marshall halfstack combo. You know - more traditional.

I'm sorry but I don't have any experience playing through that amp. All I know is Marshalls friggin rock. So If it doesn't satisfy you, get yourself a plexi head, or a JCM800/900/2000

Carvin amps tend to have a slightly plasticky undertone to the sound, which is hard to describe, but I think most of your problems would be solved by messing with better tubes, and biasing it perfectly. I'd go with my highgain amp tube default.....JJ EL-34's and GT12AX7C's.

thanks GJ, I might try that out. Weird, earlier today I was playing through it and I was like WTF. Then I go to GC for a while, come back, and play some more and all of a sudden the amp sounds really cool. I don't get it. I've never had this phenomenon before. I have a feeling it might not stick around for that much longer if I find another amp I like.
