I play from a 1985 Marshall JCM800, a Reissue 1960b Cab, with Line 6 Distortion and A PRS Custom 24 and i have a American Strat as a backup. The Guitar player in my band quit so now im the only one and i need a backup i can rely on. Im looking for the Perfect 3 pickups for my Strat; a humbucker with 2 single coils. I want a range from Saosin to The Used to Atreyu to Rise Against, while still sounding somewhat original. In other words i want to have a in your face guitar sound thats not too metal but not too light; somewhere in the middle. The PRS is perfect but my strat needs to be a reliable backup. I was thinking:

Bridge : SH-8 Invader Humbucker

Neck : JB Jr Single Coil (Strat)
Hot Rail (Strat)Input would be greatly Appreciated

Please give me some input

- Brad

Can't say much about the others, but I've played a strat with hot rails in all positions, and they're great if you're looking for a fat, full sound, that isn't that chimey quot;stratquot; sound. They're pretty dark and have a strong, smooth drive to them, but I never thought I could get that bell tone to ring out. I also thought they were best by themselves-not combo'd with each other. A cool rails/hot rails combo is a fairly good pair, from what I've read/heard.

Sounds like it'll be a fun guitar. I like non-conventional strats!

If you need a noiseless set, I would go with a Custom, Custom 5, or JB in the bridge, a Vintage Rails in the bridge, and a Cool Rails in the neck.

This wil give you a high output bridge humbucker sound in the bridge, a fat, smooth neck humbucker sound, and still get good chimey strat sounds from the middle.

So no invader? i was kinda looking forward to puttin it in the strats, sounds and seems pretty crazy

The invader is a VERY hot pup, some say hotter than the EMG 81!
It sounds best in basswood or poplar most folks will tell you.

Depending what kind of tones you are wanting from the two singles slots is what I'd recommend.

If you want real deal strat sounds I'd go with APS for a smooth sound, and hot, or custom for a souped up sound.

For noiseless strat sounds the Vintage rails, Duckbuckers, or stacks.

If you are wanting buckers in small packages I'd go with a set of JBjr's or Lil 59's. Cool, or hot rails sound good in guitars that are lacking bass.

For the bridge JB, CC, Custom, or Distortion. The JB is the most versatile high output pup on the market, it has a large upper mids spike. The CC has smooth sound with a large low mids spike. The custom has an aggressive sound with good mids and highs and grinding bass. The distortion is aggressive, and in-you-face, beat the crap out of your preamp pup.

For my Fender American strat with Floyd Rose trem, i put JB (bridge), Lil'59 (Mid), and Lil' Screaming Demon (Neck), i loooooove the tone!! you stil can get the quot;in your facequot; sound fat and powerful, yet still able to play some fat clean stuff. I love the sound of Lil'SD and JB when i do some solo stuff, this combo RAWWWKKSS!!!

thanks for the input guys, so it looks like im gonna be going with the following guitar : Fender American Strat (Sunburst) Bridge : SH8 Invader Humbucker Neck : JB jr and Hot Rail
Sounds pretty rad to me? what do you guys think?

What bodywood is the strat?

The hardest part about the 3 pups you've chosen is that they are ALL high output so it will be quite a chore to get a balanced output.

Hey I've got a C24 too, (mine is whale blue though) I've got a jazz neck and a JB/C5 hybrid bridge (was Distortion/Custom Hybrid) it sounded great, a nice upgrade from the stock pups.

I believe its Alder? i think that is what strats are made of, at least thats what Americans are made of. I really only use the Bridge Pickup, but i would like the option of using the others, i just want a sound that i can play lead, rythm with my band and have it just as reliable as my Paul Reed Smith. Something that can play Heavy Rock and isnt too metal-like, and not muffled, but really ****in clear. If you can help me out id appreciate it

check your PM's

Strats are either alder or ash, though some have maple bodies, usually flame maple.

Ash usually has very prominent, in-your-face grain, while alder looks pretty plain.

Whehter Alder or Ash, do u think an invader would sound good for Heavy, clear and reliable distortion on a strat?

Dude, check out my cleans in the quot;Tips amp; Clipsquot; forum with an invader. I ran it through a marshall. As far as distortion goes, you'll get the BEST(IMO) and most UNIQUE dist around. I've played PRS guitars, and they're bada$$. The invader can do classic rock(if EQed properly) to the pits of death metal. So of coarse it can do what you're asking for!

P.S: You'll get a distortion that's huge and thick. Great distortion, especially in an Alder. Try the invader anyways, if you don't like it, you can exchange it for another one thanks to 's pickup policy .
