I currently have a Vintage Stack in the bridge position of my Hwy 1 Tele. It's a great pickup but I'm beginning to grow a little weary of its politeness. I want something a bit more rude and cutting, yet be able to be warm and smooth. I need hum-cancelling too. I was thinking about the Hot Stack. I just don't like the look of that single blade. I was also thinking about a Hot Rails. Yes I know, they're pretty fat and aggressive. There are lot of players here who have them. What do you guys think?

It is very, very heavy, and does not sound tele like at all. I like it for what it does, but it sounds cramped clean. I think it sounds pretty cutting/yet smoothe, but not tele like at all. You could get a push pull pot. I have one in a tele now with a push pull for series/parallel. Dimarzio makes some dual blade tele sized buckers that are a little less agressive, but more aggressive than a normal tele pickup. but after having it for a while, i really miss the old tele sound and im putting my stock pickup back in. Also, it sounds a lot better with a 500k volume

Depends on the sound your after. I have both a Hot Rails and a Hot Stack, the Hot Stack sounds ok but just doesn't sound quot;rightquot; to me, the Hot Rails is nice but very midrangy when distorted, the Hot Rails cleans up nicely though when you turn the guitar volume down 1/4. If you play distorted stuff go with the rails, mine is going to be replaced with a JB as soon as I get around to ordering a new bridge. If interested I'll be selling both pickups!

Okay, I think I'll keep looking.....

I found it to be too hot for my liking. I replaced mine with a little 59 and got similar humbucker tone, but with more potential for clean sounds and character.

Not dissing the hot rails, but it's too hot for me. It was fine for all out punk tunes. It sounds great when wired parallel too. You still get some twang, and it comes with decent power.

Try a GFS Lil' Hot Puncher (search the bay for GFS)

It hits hard and sizzles but doesn't have quite the girth of the HR. And their cheap to boot...

Here's one... 7318990448

Dimarzio makes a Fast Track 1 for tele. It sits right between a humbucker and a single.

I have seen those but really haven't thought too much about them though. I don't know why. I just haven't.

I have almost bought one of those a few times. However, I have yet to really read or hear a truly positive review on them...

I really would like to stick with the Duncan line anyway...

I have tele hotrail that were in my guitar for about a month. Let me know if you are interested.

What about a lil '59 for tele? It is supposed to be like a '59 with a little tele twang. I haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot.

I think I'm going to just stick with what I have and get another guitar for the harder stuff. I was playing my Tele last night and the VS in the bridge sounds too nice to remove - for now....

You could send your current p'up to MJ and have it rewound a little hotter, that's probably what I would do.

That's a thought....
