the PATB series is duncans version of the air bucker
for instance the PAtb-1 is a AIR JB
the PATB-3 is a air custom 5
the PATB-2 is a air distortion

the poles act as a air gap just like dimarzio uses a air gap between the magnet and the polepieces

What are Parallel Axis Trembuckers?
One type of Trembucker that we made famous is our patented Parallel Axis design [see]. Here, four pole pieces per string insure that all the vibrations are captured for greater tonal range and dynamics. Because they're Trembuckers, they're designed for the 2.070quot; or 52.6mm spacing. All Parallel Axis bridge pickups are Trembuckers. But not all Trembuckers are Parallel Axis pickups.

dmz air 'technology' is their way of 'reducing' magnet gauss while using a full strength a5 mag. sd parallel axis poles alter the magnetic flux of a pickup as opposed to those with a slug/screw trembucker. i am not too sure if they are both related.

really? i would think the RESULT would be the same?
no matter what you are reducing gauss

from a technical standpoint, altering a magnetic field should differ from reducing a magnet's gauss. maybe the technical gurus can chime in here. i am interested in the difference too.

dimarzio claims the air zone has the same bass a a TZ i say BULLS##T to this!!!!!
i had both and the AZ had a softer less boomy bass
and the highs are rounder on the PAtb and air buckers

i agree on the az and tz. maybe its two different methods of acheiving the same result?

that said, rounder highs and softer bass sounds like the hallmark of an a2 mag or degaussed a5. why not just swap magnets?

The PAtb is a quot;versionquot; of a trembucker and really doesn't offer the same technology as the Air Bucker theroy. Air buckers have a plastic spacer between the mag and pole pieces which helps reduce the mag field equalling a weaker A5 mag. The PAtb design is pretty much a way to quot;bathequot; the strings in a magnetic field so you can bend notes and keep them in the magnetic field without losing the magnetic field. At least that's the way I understood it. Having played PAtb's in the past, I know that they do not have the same characteristics of an Air Bucker.

I read through the Parallel Axis patent once, and there I saw a picture of the magnetic field of the PA versus a regular bucker. The PA field was concentrated more along the sides of the string. Interesting. It's supposed to let the string vibrate more freely.

WICKED... you've gone off the deep end with this one...

They are COMPLTELY different designs!

Well put!

They are COMPLTELY different designs!well between going nuts trying to find a old DDJ and spending too much time HERE can you see why?

These don't seem like the same designs really....they serve two different purposes from the descriptions on the websites.

hey what can i say?
they both have a softer bass and rounder treble and reduce string pull
