I recently got a Jackson Kelly KE3, and it has been previously rewired but I am going to replace the volume pot because the current one is not working properly. I also plan on rewiring everything because it is done very poorly. I have one question though, on the diagram for the schematics of 2 humbuckers and 1 volume it says that green is ground but the way it is currently done black is ground. It has the stock duncan designed detonators in it. I was just curious if anyone knew what was the correct way to do it.
Thanks
Eric
They probably have it wired out of phase. The correct way to do it is green to ground.
Not trying to sound like an idiot, but what is out of phase? Sorry I'm new with this kind of thing.
Its more important that both pups use black, or both pups use green. An out-of-phase condition would only exist if one pickup used black for ground, and the other green.
Out-of-phase simply means that as the string vibrates, the pickup generates a positive-going voltage, and then a negative-going voltage. (AC) If the two pickups are out-of-phase, the two voltages will cancel each other out, and you get a weak, quot;tinnyquot; sound.
Oddly enough, some folks like that sound, and do it on purpose.
As long as both blacks are ground, it isn't a problem.
Artie
Thanks for the help. I think I have it all figured out.
