After I get most of my guitar stuff up and rolling due to the fact I originally wanted to play bass but got started on guitar first. Plus bassists are always in demand unlike guitarists who I hate to say it, in the world of metal can be a dime a dozen. Yet if I do learn bass, I hope I can try and play with my fingers instead of a pick. I thought a good beginner bass would be either a Ibanez Iceman because I liked the tone my friend had with it, a Fender P-bass standard, or a OLP Musicman.

Go with a P Bass. You can walk into any gig with a P and do reasonably well. The P Bass has got almost every tone in it. If you want more bite and snap, go with a P Bass special with P a P/J set up.

I love Ibanez Iceman.. never played the other two.

The P bass would be versatile enough. But take a look at some of the Ibanez models that have active electronics.

1 on the P or copy.

And you're quite right about everybody being a guitarist and nobody being a bassist. You'll probably be in 3 bands before you know it.

For switching from guitar to bass, please do learn to use your fingers. Nose/ forehead grease is a good lubricant, and Carmex is a decent second best. Whenever I start dong finger plucking on a bass again, I end up with blisters after about a month. And think like a bassist rather than like a guitarist playing bass!

I just always wanted to also pursue bass as well.

I play both and I'm considering taking bass more seriously. There are too many guitarists out there, and while I'll admit that a lot of them suck, even if they are in bands playing shows.

I just do not think I could abandon guitar just because I have gotten so much better in the past two years.

i decided to give bass a try a few summers ago...

i love my LTD b-105... 5-string, active electronics, I LOVE IT!
VERY reasonably priced too, for everything you get! i think i payed $280 or something new

there is an equivalent with a different number now, b-155

1,000,000 for a P-bass!
