Hey.... been wanting to make a custom neck for my Jackson for a long time..... I have a good 1 inch x 8 inch x 6 foot board of Mahogany i could use a piece of... and i have some fingerboards, truss rods, face dots and bulk frets.... In my batch of fingerboards i have one that is marked 24 3/4 scale... It has 24 fret slots..

So now part of me is thinking of making a Mahogany shorter scale neck for my favourite Jackson. But i was wondering if anyone has info on the Floyd post distance from the nut.... I think for a Floyd Original with a 25 1/2 scale neck that the posts center is 25 inchs from the nut..... If that is right is it safe to assume that 24 1/4 is the correct distance for the Floyds posts center with a 24 3/4 scale neck??????

The neck on this Jackson is still ok i just want one of my home made ones on it....

Depends on the exact floyd you have, but the quot;lossquot; in length is the same on all scales as it´s a product of the bridge´s design and not the scale.... number of frets is totally irrelevant, BTW

In other words, if you have an OFR 24.25 is correct

Note also that if you don´t compensate for the shorter length by moving the fretboard towards the bridge you WILL have intonation problems... changing a guitars scale isn´t as easy as some think

Thanks Zerberus.... Ya it is an Original Floyd.... I bought it from a store in Toronto years ago and stuck it on my imported Jackson.... Thinking back i wish i had bought more of them as the store had bought a batch from Floyd himself after meeting him at NAMM or something... They were sold for a good price and they did not last long!!!

Ya i figure making a neck 24 3/4 scale will be interesting..... The stock neck on this Jackson is 24 frets 25 1/2 scale. So i guess i can see how long the neck will be by measuring the distance to the neck pocket from the center of the floyd posts.... subtrack that number from 24 3/4 and that should tell me how long the neck should be from the heel to the nut....

But, a 24.75 inch scale is usually a 24 9/16 inch scale these days.

Check this out!
from : localhost/put in the number of frets and your scale length and it will give you a list of bridges and specs on where to mount them!

Cool and thanks for the tip... The fingerboard i have is from Warmoth and i was told they use a real 24 3/4 scale... slightly different then Gibsons.
