Use the search function for quot;Vox AC30quot; :6:

I bought one last week from GC. So far I've found this to be one of the best non boutique amps out there. There were some reports of probs with the first run of amps, mainly with bad pre amp and rectifier tubes. The newer one don't have this problem as they now come with Tung Sol 12AX7's and Sovtek GZ34 instead of the generic Chinese tubes. One word of caution: This amp is LOUD. It definetly isn't a bedroom practice amp. Even though it has a master vol. it doesn't sound good until it's pushed fairly hard.

Yep just like with quot;mostquot; tube amps!

I tried on recently and while I did like most if the tones that I got out of it it just felt like a cheap amp...the knobs, pots, etc...it just felt cheap. That said, IT IS A CHEAP AMP! I wouldn't mind having one but I'd be afraid it'd fall apart in a hurry!

exactly how i see it.....hey, im in cincy too, did you see the ones at GC? there was rips in the tolex in a few of them, and they were supposed to be new....also, the reverb didnt work on 2 of them

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck? Guess you could say it also smelt like a duck... Must be a duck!

Don't get me wrong at all...it was a fine amp with lots of great features, a greaet master volume and killer tone...but it is what it is...the worlds cheapest tube VOX

I've played on one at GC pretty loud in their amp room, and it does sound really good. I can't speak about the quality or reliability, but I'd assume that quality tubes would cure most of that. I want to get an EL-84 amp sometime next year, but I think my money would be on one of Scott's Franklins, since he uses top notch parts, and it's handwired. The amp I lust over the most is the London head/2-12 cab. That's the best EL-84 amp I've ever heard in my life. I like it even more than the Matchless DC-30.

I have mine, and I've had it for a while now and gigged it pretty good ...we're not talking years of reliability, but at least a little more than the reports claim.

The major thing I will say disappointed me about my amp is the quality of the tolex/grill cloth/cosmetics. The sound and tone is absolutely god like, I love the subtlety of the reverb, and the thickness of the tremolo....and the flexiblity out of a one channel amp. that being said, the tolex is cheap and comes unglued a bit too easily, and my grill cloth is already sagging simply from a little heat (and I'm not talking about stuck in a black car for a week in the mississippi delta heat...I'm talking one afternoon in a red blazer with tinted windows on a hot July day in the delta (yes I know I shouldn't have left it there, but it's heavy and a lot of trouble to move around everytime it gets a little hot))

I e-mailed Vox about it and they offered to have a Fedex guy pick it up (I box it up of course), get it to their place, and replace it for free!! I decided that the cosmetic stuff wasn't enough for me to risk getting one that's tonewise/electronically a dud so I kept the one I got

I've been more than happy with it.

Yes I have heard about the quality of how they are manufactured but I am more of a hobbyist it will spend probably 90% of its life in my room and the rest jammin it out with friends. haha and yeah cincinnati GC has some beat up stuff out there before christmas. I would never buy and amp from GC that is out for people to play.

I took one apart one day and the word cheap is permanently burned into my synapses.

In what way do you feel it is cheap. Quality of parts, or Quality of how it was built.

i'd be curious to know what the profit margin on one of those amps is?

Some people are wary of the possibly construction issues, being it is made in China. I am not thrilled with all the plastic, esp the small corners, etc on the box. As far as tone, it is a beautiful machine, with AMAZING options to blend top boost and classic circuits. It's very Creamy and articulate at the same time. Love the classic responsiveness.
