what kinda strings do you Floyd Rose ( and other trem users ) prefer ? i was gonna get EB 009's like i usualy get and just cut the balls off but someone said they are too elastic for the divebombs / pitch raises and such. if this is the case and im used to EB 009's what would you suggest ?l

Anything will work. I like to use heavier strings, as they're less likely to break.

I use super heavy GHS Boomers. I took a set for a 7 string, discarded the thinnest, and went from there. It ends up being silly-thick on the low E. But they stay in tune, dive very well amp; refuse to break. But bending 2 and a half steps is punishing. Ball ends at the headstock, still attached. Tuned down to D. Very heavy sound. Ibanez EX Super-strat

The same strings I use with any bridge...

DR-Tite-Fit 12-52 in standard /dropped D and GHS Boomers 7 string medium (sans high e) for D/dropped C

I use GHS boomers 10-46 on my ESP and Fender guitars with a trem. I've never had a problem with them staying in tune and they last a long while too...

most of my floyd guitars have 11-49s on them.

I use the store brand strings on all my guitars..... I gave up buying brand names a long time agao as the local stores store brand is great! If i was shopping outside my area i'd go for D'Addario or EB's.... i'm not that picky....

To help with the original question, 9's work fine with a Floyd. If that's what you're used to. All my Floyds and Kahlers have 9's.

Ernie Ball 9-46's. 56 for my 7 string guitars.

Strings is strings. Pick the one's you like and call it a day.

I went to using Ernie Ball's again after recent breakage problems with D'Addario. I never used to break strings and all of a sudden I started popping 'em left amp; right on just about all my guitars. Not just at the saddle, but in the middle of a wound string or more commonly...the wrap around the ball-end would come undone. Even on fixed bridge guitars, total weirdness.

Anyway, I don't cut the ball end off on my Floyd guitar. I put that through the tuner, pull it tight to there and snip the excess off the bridge end. It makes string changes go just a little faster since you don't have to trim both ends of the string.
