60 watt combo, 2x12, JCM 2000, what do you think of them?, are they suited to medium gain punk and rock? Reliable for gigs? Nice tone? How much for a good condition second hand one? Thanks guys,
FOrbes
In my experience, that's the standard you have to beat. There might be better ones out there, but they're probably wierd boutique ones or something I reckon u gotta play one of them in a shop, then try to beat it. If you can't (which could quite possibly be the case) buy it. 60W is pretty loud if you're not overly interested in the clean tone.
Doesn't Jeff Beck use the 50 watt head version of that amp? Good enough for Jeff/good enough for ANYONE!
Hmm, the one i was watching on ebay seemed too good to be true for the money, then i noticed the seller had purchase the amp a few months previously but hadnt mentioned it, he also listed it as 2 years old when the auction before listed it as 4 years old, when i asked a question about it to him he just pulled the auction......
Did i just have a lucky escape?
probably - if there was nothing wrong with the amp, there sure was something wrong with the seller! still a good bit of kit tho.

Lew,
You may be right, but when I saw him with BB King a couple of years ago, it looked like he was using two 100w half stacks. In either case he kicked major league butt
DO you mean the TSL, if so I'd recomend it for medium gain punk and rock. I have the head version and I love it. It does the Marshall sound really well, IMO.

Hi Lew!
Jeff Beck actually uses DSL 50 heads.
The 60W combo asked about here would either be a TSL601 (1 x 12) or a TSL602 (2 x 12) model. The TSL series have three seperate channels with seperate EQ. In a nutshell, the DSL's are dual channel with shared EQ, yet with seperate gain amp; reverb controls. The DSL's are favored tonally.

Thanks for the clarification! I was remembering a write up in one of the guitar mags where Beck was getting his gear together for a tour andwas loving the new 3 channel Marshall 50 wayy heads. I thought that was the JCM 2000. I'm not up the more recent models...

Cool, thanks for the info guys, it was the TSL602. I intend to keep looking and hopefully find an amp like this or similar for the price, cheers for your help.
This amps rock hard. I use them in my recording studio all the time. The have heavenly cleans and heavy british distortions with superb presence. They are more noisy than usual with single coils though

You're right about the amp model Lew. Yes, it is JCM 2000. The only difference is the 50W head is a DSL (Dual Super Lead) and the 60W Combo is a TSL (Triple Super Lead) and both are JCM 2000 models. Also, yes, JB uses the JCM 2000 DSL 50W Head.
I have a TSL 601 and I love it! An absolutely superb amp that covers most things for me. I'd love the 60 watt head and 4x12 but the practicality of the combo makes life easier, and it sounds huge. Go for it.
You're more than welcome to come over and try out my DSL401 sometime, being as we aer in the same town and all. No commitment, just get a feel for the JCM 2000s like.
Oh, and its for sale. (shameless plug)

Cheers man i may just take you up on that, as soon as my exams are over im going amp shopping, the only thing that has held me back a bit from the DSL's is that they don't come in 2x12 combo's.
