They'll make it worse if they aren't properly wax potted. If potted correctly, they are about the same. They can shield against some 60-cycle-hum though, like in the case of the Phat Cats.

What is the difference other than its covered? I mean sound wise?

Covered pickups tones the highs down about 4-5%

From experience it makes no difference though at times it looses clarity...

These days, not much difference. You can lose a bit of quot;attackquot;, but your pickup is protected from damage - plus, I like the way covered pups look.
