How would it sound if i rotated all of my pickups so the stagger is backwards?

i like to keep my strat pickups real low into the pickguard as to reduce string pull, but when i do this, the E and B strings sort of get lost in the mix.
I figured that flipping the pickups would allow me to keep them deep in the pickguard, but with the poles being closer to the E and B strings to they dont get lost, especially when i use my wah.

Was the purpose of the stagger for each string to have equal volume? The G pole is the highest, is this because older string packs came with a wound G and it lacked volume?

You probably won't hear much audible difference. You'd probably be better off spending that hour just playin yer guitar! LOL

Pretty much. I did that with the bridge amp; middle pickups on the '95 Am Std and the string balance is a little better...the E amp; B are a bit louder since the polepieces are closer to the strings. I couldn't swing the neck pup around because it smacks the cavity amp; the neck so I left that as-is. OTOH, I couldn't swing that on the '62 reissue because it has a regular rout. Overall it's like a 10% difference in tone...worth a shot and if you're the kind of person who notices a difference between cables amp; string brands then you'll totally hear it.
