I don't know why, but everwhere I look I see another Tele that I want, and the only amps that are even making me look twice are all Tweeds!!! Bandmaster, Bassmen, Supers, Deluxes, Twins, I want one of each!!!
Is that supposed to be a problem?

I bought my Vibrolux Reverb as my Tele amp...probably because that's what Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton seemed to favor most often.
A Tele and a Vibrolux Reverb is a pretty good marriage!
But I love playing my Teles through my tweeds...seems to soften the attack a little and let me shape the notes with my fingers a little more. Especially with the cathode biased tweeds like my Deluxes and '51 Super.
They are so expensive now though that building a kit would be the way I'd go if I were starting over.
Thank goodness I got most of my stuff years ago.

I have been e-mailing your brother off and on today about a Tweed kit!
get a Double Deluxe

The beauty of Bruce's 6L6 Tweed kit is that it can be a Super, Pro or Bandmaster, depending on what you want. Mine started off as a 5F4 Super and ended up becoming a 5E5A Pro. Thank goodness. The 2x10 wasn't doing it for me. The 1x15 does, though.

also, how is the quality of the parts in the kit?
I put out my Tweed GAS fire by scoring a Bassman LTD. 4-10 combo. Such a dynamic and lush blues tone! Really one of the greatest amps for single coils!
I prefer a bit of reverb, so I put the EH Holy Grail on top of it, set very subtle.
Also, never forget to bridge the bright and normal channels together, by taking a 6 inch cable from the Bright #2 input over to the Normal #1 input. On Plexis and Bassmans, THAT's the way to go for fatness!

Also, how is that EH reverb. I bridge the imputs on my Sound City, and just like a Marshall it works wonders! A Bassman reissue might be the way to go for me, but I would prefer something a tad smaller and I just have this thing against PCB amps...I can't explain it, but if I take an amp out of the cab and see a PCB, I just start to hate the amp!
Hi,
So if I'm reading your gear right, you're already half way there with a Tele in your hands. I found a '53 Deluxe in need of TLC on Gbase Gear Mall for something like $700 (still extremely pricey). I worked on it bit by bit with time, restoring it and even replacing the crap 2nd speaker with a really nice Celestion Alnico Blue when I finally got the chance. The vintage narrow pannel stuff will kill you if it's in decent shape, but you can find a fixer-upper wide pannel for a lot less. My Victoria 5W 12in Champ ran about $800 new, and is ideal for practice, home and studio. Sorry, didn't mean to rub it in. Good luck !

Good luck !Thats cool...the problem is that I want at lease 4 tweed amps that I can name right now, and at least 2 more Tele's that I can think of!!! It's really just real bad GAs...it'll pass (I hope!). I have been talking to someone about a Tweed Super Kit, and i might just have to throw in the towel and build another Tele pretty soon!

With the Bassman LTD, I was skeptical about the PC board, so I opened it up last night and looked at the inside. I'm no longer skeptical. Fender hit a home run with this amp, tonewise, but also with the internal construction. The PC board is more akin to an early 70's PC board, with high quality components, a simple large tracer circuit, and very clean handwiring between the board the high quality chassis mounted tube sockets, and REAL input jacks. All handwired nicely!! The cheaper Fenders all have plastic barrel jacks, PC mounted tube sockets, and crapola pots. The LTD is a gem!!
I like the EH Holy Grail in FX loops and straight into the input on vintage amps.
It's the best sounding reverb pedal I've tried. I set it fairly subtle on the spring setting, and it sounds pretty authentic.
I am sure having GAS for a Tele. That will be my next project as soon as my finances will allow it!
A couple of weeks ago I bought a 1954 Fender 5D3 wide panel tweed Deluxe. It wasn't cheap, but it's in very good condition and sounds unbelievably fat and creamy with my Teles. It's also the perfect power level for recording. The icing on the cake is that it was owned by Paul Burlison of Rock amp; Roll Trio fame (not the one he used back then, however). I'm very happy with this one!
i ad my hands on something today that would have just fanned the flames for you. i came across a tweed bassman, not a reissue. it still had the original jensen speakers in it. the only thing that wasn't original was the outside. it was retweeded so it looked brand new until you looked inside. it is an amp to die for, now i just wonder why it was at a guitar center.
ps they want 4000 for it.

ps they want 4000 for it.At a vintage shop in Atlanta there is a 1957 Bassman...I walked in the room where it is, and as if by fate the only guitar in the room was a red 335...I felt just like Marty McFly! That rig was KILLER!!!
Just get one of those tweed covered Teles, kill two brids with one stone!
Just step up and get one of the mission kits and don't look back. if you're on a tight budget, take a look at weber's kits. the problem with webers appears to be support. so, if it's your first build, bruce/mission is the way to go.
i've got my eye on an 18 watt marshall kit, not that I need it, just looks cool or a JTM45 kit. (basically a bassman)
