I have heard good things about the Pacifica 112 as a starter / intermediate guitar. Is the Yamaha EG 112 a Pacifica or a lower budget model?
TIA
I played a pacifica at guitar center the other day. Although not much to look at they were a lot better than mexican fenders.
I love mine. Put a JB init that night wonderful for the price
the EG112 is not a pacifica. its lower than the pacifica models. the models of the pacificas would start with PAC. beginning with PAC 012 , the lowest end there is.
they are not fenders. nevertheless with good pickups and properly set up, they make good players. when i bought mine, i was quot;1 vs 1quot;-ing it with a squier.
wow these are nice and they come stock with a JB!
The blue one is the more expensive I presum.
I would also take off the pickguard....I wonder if they painted under the pickguards?
1 excellent for the price. I had a pacifica 12 string and the quality was spot on
hahah.. after reading the posts on this thread i'm having doubts about selling my pacifica.
I caught so much hell for this over at Guitar.com, but oh well...here I go. lt;opening mouth, inserting footgt;
About three years ago, I was at Guitar Center, playing with all the quot;toysquot;. For kicks, I grabbed a Pacifica 112. It was so light, it almost felt too cheap....BUT....nonetheless, I plugged it in, and started playing. It was perfect. The fretwork was absolutely awesome, the fit and finish on the body was perfect, and it sounded incredible. I found myself cracking up that this $159.00 Yamaha was so good. However, I'm a guy who hasn't played his Gibson Les Paul Goldtop for about 5 years because I MUCH prefer playing my cheap little Fernandes Strat copy I picked as a throwaway to keep at the office for those late night breaks.
In any case, there are a lot of gearhounds who I find a bit annoying with their snobbery. I have no problem with people owning whatever gear they want, until they start bashing some player who owns quot;lessquot;. Then it gets my dander up.
So....for fun, I thought I'd A/B this Yamaha against a $2,795 PRS Custom 22. It was definitely a piece of art. BEAUTIFUL in every way.
But, as I spent close to an hour playing one, then the other, then back....etc., I found myself much preferring the playability and sound out of the Pacifica. My conclusion that day was that if Guitar Center had offered me either one for free, with the condition that I actually had to PLAY and GIG with whichever one I chose (not simply own it as an investment or for resale/collecting value)....then my choice without a doubt would have been...
lt;drum rollgt;
The Pacifica.Dave
Got my Pacifica 112L loaded with Jb/Jb jr... really like the feel and playability of this guitar...
the other guitarrist on my band has a pacifica 112, its pretty cool, actually, its very loud...
i would recomend the wilkinson version...

I wouldn't sweat it ... people ave laughed at me for years when I tell them one of my main and favorite guitars is a low end Yamaha that's been slowly modified.
A lot of people have the quot;Yamaha's a japanese Skidoo/Snowmobile company ... they can't make good guitarsquot; mentallity ... I just ignore them or laugh
I played 2 Pacifica 604w's with Sperzels and a Wilkinson. Fabulous!
In fact my blue 1 is in my avatar.
And my profile pic!!!
Yamaha makes some great gear.
I've owned about 5 Yamaha guitars in my guitar playing life and have currently widdled it down to an acoustic and two electrics, plus my starter Yamaha Pacifica 102 (I think) which I may mod for alternate tunings sometime here in the near future.

So is the EG 112 a POS? How do they compare to Squiers amp; Squier Bullits or Ibanez GAX?
They all seem to be readily available on eBay for lt; $100. My girlfriend was thinking of one for her son - he's only 10 and may not stick with it. Also I was thinking of getting one to quot;dontate to sciencequot; to help me better understand the assembly and internals of a guitar hands on without risking my player.
Thanks
what is POS?
the EG112 is comparably lower grade than the PAC112. well, it seems good pricewise to donate to science.
i guess the EG112 might be lower grade compared to the squier as well.

Thanks I'll try and grab one as a cadavar. How about as a starter?
Yamaha are normally pretty good at all levels, especially entry level. I would give them a go.

you can also get a used and whacked up EG112 on ebay for even less money if you want it just a a cadavar.
for a starter the PAC112 should be cool. its not too expensive and last a while before an upgrade is needed.
heck,i'm still playing the PAC112.hehehe.no embarassment there. but the upgrade axe is coming real soon.
