Well some guy has a used screamer 50 for 600 Euro and i am gonna go check it out.
anyone heard these?
they are made in Germany so they must be WAY more reliable than my stupid Marshall. Sorry but i have a faulty Marshall that i will make a thread out of soon.
any opinions on the sounds these amps get?
i mainly like the EVH sound as well as Michael Shenker, Norum. ZZ Top. stuff like that. i dont dig the super high gain stuff out there.
do you think this amp will deliver?
i know that tone is subjective and i will have to hear it for myself as well.thanks
anyone?
they are designed for city-rattling high gain hehe - i have gigged in a band where the guitarist used the screamer, and its *very* *very* good for shred and smoother solo tones, as well as aggressive power chords..
they are also built amazingly well - inside the chassis is very tidy and decent-high quality components are used throughout...
the nature of the band (pretty progressive sounding metal) means i didnt hear much of his clean sound or mid-gain settings though.. what i will say is that it has an industry standard 'red' channel, and is one of those bits of gear that could well change your tastes in music
tom
thanks!
anyone else?
I love ENGLs! Most of them are designed mainly for metal, but some models are great for low gain stuff. You can check them out at www.rocksolidamps.com
i'm looking forward to the model of the ENGL on the V-amp 2 i'm getting.
Engls amps are plainly killer. Think Porsche Their building quality is incredible, actually, IMO they were built according to military tolerances. Plus, they double or triple the worth of quality parts are built in, compared to a standard range Marshall.
The Screamer is pretty much capable of well screams It is a budget-yet-superb hi-gain amp, covering both rock and metal hi-gain needs. For moderate gain IMO the Thunder is better because it is tuned to blues and rock, you know, not as pronounced low grain and more singing mids.
$500 is a steal fot the Screamer anyway. It is a good idea to buy it and later getting used to it Oh well the recent formula for your Marshall is x=x 1 :
Reliable Marshall amp = Marshall amp a tube techie with soldering gun and some useful mechanical upgrades in mind.
Then, you can enjoy Marshall-toned cloudless life...
My SL-X was a sorry accident before the upgrade and it became a frontline crash-absorber after. Multiple Crash amp; vibration amp; liquid tested
necro is bang on actually, but if you cant be arsed with the bother of repairing, someone probably has cash or other gear waiting here for trade
tom
yeah,
im gonna try the amp out tomorrow so ill let everyone know whats up.thanks again!
I owned an Engl Powerball for almost 2 years. It is the best high gainer on the market today IMO.
I think that at least some models, like the Ritchie Blackmore model, must be good at lower gain levels as well. Blackmore isn't axactly known for having a gained out extreme metal tone, right?
CALLING MR. XSSIVE!!! CALLING NEW POWERBALL ONWEN XSSIVE!!!!!
i've never played an engl, but the clips i've heard are awesome!!!
The Screamer is a great amp! I had one for a while. The clean channel is surprisingly good, and the Crunch channel is amazing. I fell in love with the Crunch channel the first time I used it. If you put the clean volume up at around 2 o'clock, you can bring down the guitar volume on the Clean channel 1 for cleans and then dime it for the Crunch channel 2 for some awesome classic rock tones. I set the lead gain pretty high so that the Soft Lead channel 3 had enough gain for early Sabbath type tones, then the Heavy Lead channel was high-gain bliss! If you don't like high-gain tones, this amp might change your mind!
Actually the higher end ENGLs (Powerball, Savage), perhaps excluding the SE since I haven't tried that one, are amps that cover anything but that. That's typical Marshall sound. You can do practically anything with these ENGLs and they're built like a tank like Necro mentioned earlier, but they're basically as articulate as you play. If you're a sloppy sweep picker the notes will turn into chords. I'm looking for the sound you're looking for right now as well, but I keep leaning towards Plexi-voiced amps sometimes with a more modern twist. I can get any full-tube Marshall sound I want out of these amps (even the JCM800) EXCEPT plexi sounds, so try it out first. I haven't tested the screamer and it might be a whole different amp
