Anyone know the difference?Thanks.

go to and I believe Bob has an entire section devoted to how these two tubes differ

The E34L is a 30 watt tube, compared to 25 watts for the EL34. The E34L has more heardoom and more bass than the EL34. The E34L combines some of the characteristics of a 6L6 with the characteristics of a EL34.

And, you definitely need to rebias, if you go from EL-34 to E-34L. My opinion is that 50W amps sound best with E-34L's and 100W amps don't need that extra oomph, so EL-34's are a better choice.

Actully.. the JJ E34L is not a 30watts tube, its only 25watts. Groove Tubes say their version is a 30watts tube because of the extra heating wing. I cant comment about that since I've never tried it.

But yes, the E34L packs more headroom, punch, tightness and more aggressive sound to them, specially when cranked. I prefer them over quot;standardquot; EL34s. I found the EL34s to lack on the low end and sometimes the highend was a bit harsh on the ears.

I use the JJ E34Ls in my Carvin T100 tube poweramp, which originally had GT EL34s and I can tell you after the retube, the overall tone is much much better then before. I rebiased the amp to 34mA per channel (2 tubes) and i plugged in some balanced JJ ECC83s in the phase invertors. It gave my tone better chug and more clear tone.Hope that helps and good luck!

Try SED winged C EL34's, they are by far the best sounding 34's that I have tried , and they won't break the bank!
