I was in guitar center and I plugged a peavy wolfgang into the AT-100 tri mode rectifier head and I was TOTALLy blown away..this thing sounded NASTY and it wasn' teven cranked..and I didn't mess with any of the knobs..just plugged right in and BAM....and I dig the price too with the green tag sale...
I'm really considering unloading my vetta and getting this amp....I like the vetta, but I have a love/hate relationship with it...some days I like it, sometimes I don't..and it gets buried very easily..doesn't cut through like tubes would...so I think it's time to put it out to pasture..I wouldn't even consider it if ratings on sites I looked at weren't so high for the B-52 and the price..oh the juicy price!
any info would rock..thanks!
I'm very interested in trying a B-52, but I've no idea where to pick one up. But I'd be interested in hearing more about them as well.
Well, from the screeching I heard other guys getting from it while purchasing some studio stuff I would have to say I wasn't terribly impressed. Don't get caught up in the flavor of the month.
I have one in my garage, the solid state version at least. My other guitarist uses it as a poweramp and my V-Amp2 as his preamp. He bought it on a whim because he needed a halfstack, and didn't have much cash. Bad idea...the thing sounds like a rhino farting through a wet blanket.
yeah one of the crappy local rehersal studios here has the solid state B-52 full stacks and i must say, that was THE WORST amp i have ever played through...i got better tone using a zoom multi effects pedal through a bass amp...don't ask lol.

well, I'm not talkin' about solid state..if I wanted solid state I'd go with a randal =) I'm talkin' about the tube amps
B-52s are affiliated somehow with GC. I have a friend who plays in a classic rock cover band and bought one for that gig - a 100 watt half stack. He says it sounds good. He also got a smokin' deal 'cause he works at GC.
Steer far away from the SS B52s.... They sound just like DSS described.Steer far away from the SS B52s....
...on second thought, scratch that.
the tube ones sound pretty bad too
Those tube B52s are pretty awful. The only people i saw buy them during my stint at GC were kids with very little money who just HAD to have a tube smp and didn't think to buy a MUCH nicer-sounding Line 6 at the same price or people with plenty of money that had bad taste in amps.
They just.... suck. I don't know how this company even got off the ground. Those amps sound like everything bad about tubes. yuck.
from what i heard of those tube ones, screechy and trebly, not really alot of definition either.
