4 tubescreamers?
2 DS-1's?
Is this for variety of settings that are ready to go on stage? Greater flexibility to fine tune overdrive tone?

Do you use 4 TS's or 4 different pedals TS DS1 SD1 Bad Monkey whatever

Is 2, 3, 4,...N better than one?

I've only recently acquired more than one OD pedal, but the results speak for themselves. Let's say you are running them in front of a clean channel on your amp. You can play clean, dirty from pedal 1, dirty from pedal 2, or dirty from pedals 1 AND 2 at the same time. Whether they are different pedals or the same pedal with different settings dialed up, all 3 of your OD options will sound different.

In other words, it just puts more tones at your disposal.

EDIT: I personally use a Spina DS-1 pushing a Zendrive, two very different sounding pedals that mesh to create some pretty cool tones.

I currently have a modded TS9 in front of an Ubermetal pedal. The 2nd is set to very little distortion and acts as my preamp. I use the TS9 for sologain in clean and distortion channel...

Have 1 pedal set for your dirty rythm tone, hit another and you have a huge distorted lead tone. Thats it right there.

Thank for the feedback guys. I'm thinking of 2 of either TS7's or DS-1 or SD-1 flip a coin and pick two of the three with my strat. Of course what I get would get the Spina mod.

What kinda music do you play?

I play classic/hard rock something between cream and DT

TS off, UM off -- clean
TS on, UM off -- nice crunch / solo clean (with volume backed a bit)
TS off, UM on -- distorted rythm
TS on, UM on -- solo lead
I also use a volume pedal betweem the two distortions the control the distortionlevel of the UM...

I don't know what kinda music you play, but i would go with a DS1 and the TS7 for general rock stuff.

I currently have three overdrives . ZW-44, Tonebone Classic, Tonebone Hot British. They all sound completely different, and the setup changes with what amp I am using as well. I just like the versatilety of different sounds, I guess.

yes, bluesy classic rock stuff. I've let go of my 80's metal desire. I listen to it but ain't gonna play it

Really? I've heard that the TS7 and DS1 are very similar circuit wise?

My band may go from playing Lynyrd Skynyrd to Black Sabbath to Johnny Cash and that is why I use multiple overdrives. If a player only does one style of music I could see getting away with just one. It's nice to have options....Joe

Maybe because of the order, or they are stock pedals?

I use my Keeley DS-1 for rhythm and have an analogman TS-9 silver before it in the chain (with the level maxed and the tone and drive around 9:00) and use it to goose the DS-1 for a fantastic lead tone.

Do you normally use a noise gate or pickup booster in front of the OD's with your strats?

nah, no noise gate - I have never been able to get along with them. I do use a Fulltone Fat Boost, but I use as a straight volume boost for the amp, or to slam the amp's preamp tubes when already playing a little dirty. It is currently after the OD pedals in my chain

TS7 and DS1 I guess it will be then unless someone else has a better suggestions. It appears that the best way to go is to get the inexpensive pedals. Send then to John, then your are good to go.

There's no need to spend $150 on a single TS808, right?

Peter Hayes in BRMC uses a 335 through 4 tubescreamers into a fender twin. This gives him a very unique sound - scuzzy and dark, rather than gritty or punky. I've never heard any other guitarist with that sound, and it suits their style of music down to the ground. Listen to the distorted guitars in quot;Riflesquot; or quot;In Like The Rosequot; for good examples. Actually, listen to them anyway, they are unbelievably good songs

I`ve got a stock DS-1 I can sell , or a Spina modded DS-1 I can sell ya. Ah , the DS-1 just never worked for me but a lot of people swear by the Spina modded DS-1!

Anyone else care to chime in?
