The neck pup in my Tele is shot. (long story) I need to pick up a new one today while at lunch and install it before I play tonight. I have gone through the tone wizard, but I need some real advice from you guys that have a Tele neck pup. I play good ol' Ramp;R, blues, etc. I like the vintage tone, but slightly hotter and fuller for added sustain.. What pup am I?
DiMarzio Twang King... Hands down, the best Tele neck pickup made...
Can you eloborate just a little about the charecteristics of the TK?

You know how a quot;normalquot; Tele neck pickup is kind of mellow and hollow? with a nice character but nothing really special? Well, the TK is really big, open and punchy. It sounds like a really great Strat pickup but smoother.

WOW!! I think I may be sold. problem is is that no one locally has them. I guess I will have to go through the night without a neck pup :-( I will probably just order online.
Thanks Butch I am glad you chimed in since we have similar tastes in music!!
I'd go for the Fralin Blues Special...sounds like a Strat neck pickup in a single coil size. It's my favorite hotter than stock Tele neck pickup. If you want a Tele neck pickup with a nickle cover, then I'd recommend the Duncan Tele Hot neck pickup...another great pickup. Lew
If you're in a pinch, then I guess it depends on what you have available locally and what bridge pickup you have in your guitar (i.e., will they be in phase to avoid wiring hassles). I like the SD Antiquity I Tele rhythm, and I would guess that I'd like the STR-2 Hot rhythm, too. Several of the Fender neck pickups are very good, including the Nocaster, Original Vintage, and American Series/Standard. A lot of people like the Texas Special Tele neck pickup and the Mexi Classic Series neck pickup.
If you decide to go without a neck pickup, then I'd pull it out and go Esquire for some added zip from the lead pickup -- might as well make the best of a bad situation!
i followed Butch's lead when he told me to get the Dimarzio TK neck pickup.....and indeed, it sounds awesome....very lively and punchy with clarity.....it sounds like a good strat pickup i think......its definately a great bargain, and secret tone monster!
