has anybody refinished a guitar with korina wood?.. cuz I'd like to finish my epiphone 58 korina explorer in a transparent red finish with dark red burst on the edges.. was wondering if that would work out cuz I've never worked with korina guitars
refinishing korina is exactly the same as refinishing any other wood
Well, not EXACTLY like any other wood. It involves a bit more prepwork than, say, an alder body, basically ya just gotta make sure ya fill up the grain pretty well, get a nice flat surface to work with. The rest is all the same.
My understanding was that Epi Korina models had korina veneer as opposed to solid korina bodies. If that is the case, take care when sanding it down.

1 I was ready to pull the trigger on a 58' korina V. Untill I noticed it was a Veneer. I wouldn't take the chance sanding it down to bare wood.
If you're worried about the veneer, strip it instead of sanding it.
Just to clarify what I meant...Originally Posted by krankguitaristWell, not EXACTLY like any other wood. It involves a bit more prepwork than, say, an alder body, basically ya just gotta make sure ya fill up the grain pretty well, get a nice flat surface to work with. The rest is all the same.
Which you also have to do on sapeli, mahogany, ash and others ... as well as most pieces having nicks and dents anyway .... so with the exception that I´m using LESS grain filler, it´s more or less exactly the same
good idea.. because I plan on having a transparent finish (other than the burst on the outside
