It is nice sounding BUT it lost that PAF type mojo the stock one posessesand for me that was all that it took to make me put back the smaller ceramic!
IT however is for heavier chuga chuga stuff it has more output and a tighter bass and the mids got more aggressive, overall it sounded more modern
i prefer the stock custom to be honest
wuss.
I thought you prefered the Custom 8?
What are the size differences between the 2 ceramic magnets, and how does each affect the pickup?

How should we call this pickup?
Custom ?
While the Custom is described as a PAF on steroids, can you describe the Custom as a Custom on steroid?
Or as a '59² and this is a '59³

INGE the custom with the larger magnet lost the PAF vibe which is why i did not stay with it
they can call it the custom whatever but really it is more like a tone zone than the stock custom
Wouldn't the Custom with the larger ceramic magnet just be a Duncan Distortion?
So what's the king of Customs in your opinion now, Wicked Lester?

I have 4 guitars and three customs so i like em all but the custom 5 which is very dull !
i wanted to like the custom 5 but no matter what it just sounded empty and this was through a massive rig

no the custom with a larger magnet is nothing like the DD
the JB with a larger ceramic IS the DD however
my favorite custom would have to be the production TB-5 or sh-5
but the CC and alnico 8 are also very good
i am using the CC right now in one guitar because i need THAT tone
I have four guitars and have another on the way and i like to have a different tone in each
before i wanted them to all sound alike but found that that was NOT the way to go
my EMG zakk Lester will stay stck no matter what cause that GUITAR is just so sweet stock
it sounds friggin huge and i use it for all the ozzy/zakk/BLS stuff
the other have thier place as well
iu p-lay everything from ac/dc to zep to VH to guns and roses
i play a lot of styles which is why i have so many guitars
my amp suprisingly covers all those tone i need so i dont own any other amps
the zakk stack OWNS IMHO

Completely agree with you on this one, man. It seemed a bit flat and generic to me to.

yeah i was let down i was hoping the C5 would be like a 59 but only hotter
but it sounded NOTHING like one
the 59 has a lot of personality and character the C 5 does not
I see why seymour did not offer this before the users made him put it in production it is not all thati think IF the alnico 8 ever took off players would find it much more quot;MUSICALquot; and lively
the 8 version has the concept of the custom 5 in that it is a like a 59 but hotter
the alnico 8 is very balanced as well it has just enough mids to fill the toneand the bass is not too boomy
Hails Wicked modder
ahahahahahaha
hows the Duncan custom large magnet highs compared to the stock duncan custom ?
you sure are flooding the forum with custom propaganda

hows the Duncan custom large magnet highs compared to the stock duncan custom ?It has more output for one, and the lows got much tighter, the pup was no longer open PAF sounding like the stock version is
It was more METAL only than as it is stock which i feel is very versitle and can do ac/dc or VH one minute and then SLAYER or LAMB OF GOD the next
so the large ceramic is more for a guy who wants to just crush skulls and the stock ceramic custom is more for a guy who wants to crush skulls but also be able to make amends after crushing some skulls
YOUDIDN´T answer the question
ahahaahahha how are the highs on the big ceramic custom and on the standard custom?
i just want to know how are the highs on both pickups
