And they rock! Just the right size like you used to see on the old tweed amps. Nothing too gaudy, just black and silver.
Jeremy, send me your address again, I owe you one. My first Franklin will be ready for playing tomorrow night. Then it's time to tweak here and there, but IT'S ON BABY!
I'm having trouble locating copper colored laserable faceplate material. Maroon looks darn good, black is a no brainer, gold is a possiblity. I'll be able to offer a wide range of choices for whatever someone wants. 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs (original Lightnings only had 4 and 8 outs). 4 controls, gain, bass, treble and Master. 3-way power switch for a standby (something the original Lightnings didn't have).
The $800 head and $1000 1x12 combo might not be introductory pricing, it might be permanent pricing. Sorry to gush, I'm getting geeked up. Once I get this first one built, I'll have enough of the basic parts to build two more. The only things I'll have to buy to complete them will be trannies and enclosures. I already have a wood, dovetail joint 1x12 coming from jeff swanson. It'll be here next week. I'm having a traditional black Matchless tolex head being built as we speak as well. Swanson seems to be able to get his stuff out the door quickly.
Sorry, I'll shut up now.
scott, is Franklin the smallest amp you build?
yes, at this time. I really want to concentrate on 2-3 basic designs and get them nailed down to the point of perfection before I branch out in other areas.
I'm assuming you're looking for a single ended (one power tube) nano amp type thing? I'd give that ZVEX one a shot. It's supposed to be pretty cool.
Or did I read your post wrong, you're looking for a *physically* small amp?
AWESOME NEWS SCOTT!!!!!!
you got me right scott. looking for a quot;small poweredquot; amp. the nano is cool but 400 bucks for 1 watt is kinda pricey.anyway its in consideration too. is there any amp power between 1 and 18 watts? i'm not going to buy it now. just doing some long term learning and research for the future.
oh and scott, cant wait to see pictures of your amp !! havent seen any yet.
Sounds cool, Scott. I'm looking forward to seeing (and hopefully hearing) the finished project. Keep us posted.

Well, I'm going to have to find some time to get it over to Rodney's studio in Austin for some professional clips. Rodney's a killer guitar player, so I'll bring a hummer and P90 Les Paul pair plus my Tele. It's be great if I could get a good strat there. Maybe Stratman could show up as well, but Austin is a 3 hour drive from Houston.
quot;Franklinquot; . . . cool - my middle name.
Maybe one of these will be my first quot;realquot; amp.
Artie

sweet amps scott! As soon as i move away to college, i might be needing one of those little monsters! A 1x12 fender twin type thing would be ideal for portability and LOUDNESS if i get gigs up in gainesville.
Can't wait to see the goodies Scott
Cool news, nothing like getting those badges.

great news scott keep em a comin ....and I know your probably not that interested in
making amps like mesas or bogners but that would be awesome you could be the forums go to guy for amps of all kinds, just think of all the gas you could create and
satisfy at the same time. chris
Great news scott, when Im looking to buy myself a real amp in a few years, I'll come knocking . . . so . . . endorsements???? lol just kidding.
Looks great man,
CJ Sutton over at Weber Speakers did them for me and the work was outstanding. I had a general idea and he improved upon it in a great way.
very cool Scott!!! will they do small runs and one offs or only large orders?
-Mike
I did an initial order of 5. $30 set up fee, each badge is about 5 bucks I think. Very reasonable. I'm likely to order 10 more very soon. The material is some sort of metal, thin like aluminum.
