Just noticed a wee trend and thought back to myself - at eighteen all I wanted was an Ibanez. 7 years later, I can't stand them.

I never really liked them.

When I was young it was all about Charvels, pointy headstocks, Floyds, and deep cutaway superstrat bodies with neon colored or graphic paint jobs. Now it's all about hardtails and wood, Les Pauls, traditional looking strats, semi-hollows.

Yeah, pretty much. I was never into Vs and explorers, but I was into the whole metal superstrat thing, and nowadays those guitars only hold nostalgia value. I like all the typical vintage type stuff: strats, teles, gibsons, PRS etc...

That said, I just bought one of these:Nope.

I'm 39, and I prefer traditional styled guitars more now, than I did 20 years ago. I do have a USA Dean, Cadillac in my collection, and it has one point! Sprinter

Im only 17 and im a fan of both camps .And just to remind you, I dont have BC Rich guitars by choice, their quality was the best for the price. Considering I got an $700 platium pro for $200, brand new from the factory.

I think the concensus is that 'you personally must have a look that fits with the look of
the guitar you strap onto your body.....regardless of anything else.

My personal opinion is quot;what do you want people's first reaction to be, when you walk out with a guitar strapped on?quot; Do I want to walk out and have guitarists and audience members say quot;cool music, and his guitar looks coolquot; or do I want to walk out and have 40 people think to themselves quot;holy fukkin moly, this dork thinks he's cool with a Jackson King V painted with skulls n crossbones!quot; Call me a conservative snob, but I'd rather be the first guy. LOL

I love my pointed V's, BC Rich's, and ESP's amp; always find time for my Strats but have grown out of Ibanez's a long time ago. Why? I don't know, I just didn't like them anymore. Now I'm more picky and choose by wood and quality and where and how it's made. Maybe this is why we're into different guitars now.(?)

The older I get, the more concerned with playability I become, and that has brought me to the pointy 80's guitars (Charvel amp; Kramer). They look badass, and play better than anything made before or after.

I still love my shaped guitars. Dream guitar is and has been for a long time a BC Rich Bich. I love the shape of the Mockingbird as well. I also like Vs. I hate actualy Strats, super strats are ok but kinda bland. I hate Teles more. Never liked Exlporers and SGs are almost as ugly as Teles. I like Les Pauls but didn't always. I also go more for woods and how they're made. I used to be all about Ibanez because I thought they were good guitars. After owning 5 and all of them sucking I looked elsewhere. I landed on Jackson's doorstep and was a fan for a long time. Now however give me my Mahogany American BC Riches and My Les Pauls. But I'd surely trade out my Les Pauls for more American Riches anyday.

Personally, I love the idea of walking onstage with a ridiculous guitar. But then again, I don't play in a rock band. I know there are certain local bars where my PRS would be considered a faux pas if I was in a rock band and gigged with it, which I think is pretty funny. Still, got the fashion angle covered with the Keef tele custom.

Funnily enough, there are a couple of local dub/reggae bands where the guitarists use shred sticks: one uses a jem and the other a George lynch kamikaze!

I can't shake the playability, the feel of a Jackson. To me that is what playing guitar is all about.

I owned a real POS Epi V back in the mid-eighties ... after all, Bob Mould played a V (Ibanez Rockit Roll), and if a V was good enough for him ...
I got rid of that thing about 18 months later. Since them, my guitars have been fairly traditional.
...but I still want a V.

....I'm 38, have 5 Ibanez Destroyer II's, 1989 Gibson Explorer and a 1956 LP Junior (in the quot;onstagequot; category) and have no intentions of quot;retiringquot; any of them.....if there is an quot;older mentalityquot; that dictates what guitar I play or when I quit using 100w Marshall's......I will be happy to admit it when it happens....

But for now, my '83 DII plays better than just about anything else I've found....the '56 LP comes real close!

I fail to believe the whole quot;older you getquot; theory about anything....except that I am actually getting older!

no it obviously doesnt happen with everyone, some people yeah, but look at loads of players like in judas priest and what not, theyre like really old and play V's, so no it doesnt always happen

In my teens and twenties all I wanted were Les Pauls, Strats, Teles and SGs (ever so slightly pointy). Now at 44 I am eyeing up Flying Vs on Ebay.

eh, I dunno. I tend to like the more quot;Traditionalquot; shapes a bit more, strat, tele, LP, whatever. But...that said, I've got two ibanez destroyers that I'm restoring and a gibson V. Though those are more quot;classicquot; radical shapes.

Never liked BC rich though. At least not their import stuff. The more modernistic stuff just doesnt hold my attention.
