are there two kinds of 59 pick ups ? ie one made for the bridge and another one made for neck.

Funny you guys are talkin about this. I just bought a 59 off EBay (gads I hate doing that...but sometimes, you get a good deal). It's an older
(pre 2002) 59, not marked sh1n on the back, but marked only 59N, has engraving, etc. But, the lead wire is coming out of the wrong side of the pickup for it to be a neck pup, spacing is good. Are there any electrical/magnetic differences between a 59 neck and bridge? If not, I'm just going to wrap the lead wire around, put it in the neck and go on like I knew what I was doing (have a new PG for the bridge).

from : localhost/that was the wire that came on the 59, i cut to fit to go to my bridge. so my question is what can i do to make it long enough to go to my neck?

I wouldn' say it's too bright but I think It's quite bright...

o ya maybe bright wasnt the right term but the lower strings sound dull and thin. the higher strings sould um ... maybe hot is what i was looking for. (the clean tone sux but i the distortion tone is cool)

i use a marsall jackhammer with a trace elliot 75 watt with a 12 inch celestion.

so does an one know how i could make that wire longer (see previous post. number 13 to be exact)

The only way to make the wire longer is to solder some short extensions on to what you have. If its the 2-conductor braided type, it will take a bit more perserverance than the 4-conductor cable.

As far as the 59's being too bright, I know I've said this a dozen times, but it seems to be relative to this thread. My Patriot and Predator are the exact same guitar, except for the Kahler bridge in the Predator. The pickguards are interchangeable. The set of 59's was too bright and shrill in the Patriot. Moved the whole thing over to the Predator, and its a match made in heaven.

o and also i think i am going to go buy a jb for the bridge and move my 59 to the neck. would the jb give me a big full clean sound in my ibanez rg220?

If you put a neck model in the bridge it will be awfully bright.

Remember its calibrated for the neck slot which means the pup needs less bass and more highs. Put that pup in the bridge slot and it will be bright.

If you're talking about extending just a few inches, almost anything will do. Just get some small gauge speaker or intercom wire from radio shack, or a hardware store.

The wire always comes out of the same side of a humbucker, irrespective of whether it is a bridge or neck model. The only difference between the neck and bridge versions is that the bridge ones are wound slightly hotter, so that when you have a pair of the same model installed they balance well. There's no reason why you can't put a bridge model in the neck (or vice versa) - it just depends on whether its output balances with whatever you have in the other position.
