I'm thinking about wiring variations again, and wondering what happens if you don't have ground connected to the volume pot. I would think that the a resistor in series with the coil should reduce the output, but do need the ground connection to reduce the pickup output to zero? Never tried it, any thoughts? Thank, Rusty

If you don't have a ground to the volume pot chances are you won't be able to turn it down, depends on how your guitar is wired, and if your pots are mounted directly into wood, or on a metal plate.
Plus your guitar may be more likey to hum.

I was just doing an experiment today, as a matter of fact, (its in another post), where I put a 500k pot in the red/white wire line. Its the same as what you're describing - a volume control with no ground. It reduces the volume by about half. Maybe 3-quarters. It is somewhat dependent on other factors though. Like the input impedance of the amp you're plugged into.
