List your favorite bang for the bucks head.
Preferably all the priceranges. (200-500,500-1000,1000 ...)
Edit: I don't mean quot;bangquot; as in volume, i mean as far as tone, features, blabla.
Vox Valvetronics AD60VTH or AD120VTH: Hybrid Amp with lots of options, variable output power from 1 watt to 120 watts stereo, models 16 different amps, GREAT tones! Used price ranges form $350 for mono head(ad60) to $450 for stereo(AD120).
In the 500-700 range, a used rivera knucklehead 50 is *the* bang for the buck amp in my book.
In the $1000 range, that new Vox AC30CC is one helluva deal.
In the 400 range, everyone is raving about the little aged Fender Blues Jr with the upgraded speaker standard.
Another great bang/buck is a used kit amp that someone is now tired off. If they give you an approval period to make sure it's not too noisy, you're good to go. 18 watt Marshall or Tweed Deluxe's can be had from 600-700 depending on how good the parts used were.
200-500 - bassman 100 amp; a good pedal (or a pod xt live, heh)
500-1000 - XXX, dual recto, bassman LTD, vibroverb. The xxx is more versatile than people think, it can actually get great ac/dc type tones with the ultra channel on loose, and the cleans aren't as bad as people would lead you to believe. And of course it slays under high gain. I'm sure you could get good blues rock tones with the crunch on loose. That damping switch is a cool little thing
1000 - dunno, never priced them. Shiva 6l6 sounds promissing
If you buy a used Mesa, and don't destroy the tolex you can usually sell it for at least as much as you paid. That's pretty good bang for the buck. I would look at the Single Rectifier's, F Series and Caliber series for the best tone/features to dollar ratio.
if your into high gain i can say that the best bang for the buck head overall IMO is the peavey ultra plus...however it can only be had used now. i own one and will NEVER sell this thing!! it's the amp the XXX was based on and is a tone monster!

Mesa boogie F-50. Head new is $700, combo is about $1,000.
Carvin Legacy head. Great amp for $800
Marshall DSL 50 $650-$700 used.
Jubilees and Plexis $850-$900
Soldano Hotrod 50 or 50 $750 used
Peavey Ultra $500
Carvin Legacy $500
Mesa Single Rec $800
Or consider a simple rack setup like a JMP-1 and Marshall, Mesa, or Peavey tube power amp. $750-$850
Even though the Mesa F-Series and Single Rectos don't have all the features that you may find in their more expensive amplifiers, they are the two best bets (with GREAT sounds) if you want value and if you wanna Boogie!
BTW - Always watch eBay.

1. However both of mine have leather, not tolex
The new Fender FM100H $250.00, Crate GT1200H 250.00, and Behringer V-Tone GMX1200H $ 200.00
Peavey JSX....a tweaked out XXX that is a bit more refined sounding....they can be had for $850 used here and there.
Between the active EQ and being able to accept either 6L6 or EL34s it's an EXTREMELY versatile amp with 3 channels. It really slays many amps costing more as well IMO.
If you can't afford that, XXX's can be had for a hundred or so less used and can cover alot of the ground but you gotta put quality tubes in them and tweak it a little bit more.
Both of these amps need to be biased warm too.
Even though it's not cheap, I think a used Hughes amp; Kettner Triamp is the best quot;bang for the buckquot; out there. 100w, 6 different channels (3 independent with EQ), reverb and a whole lotta tone. Used, they're around a grand and the tone blows away most amps I've played.
bumpety
if your not anal about having built in hi gain channels, crunch channels, ultra channels, lead channels, thump channels, or 666 death shred channels-a BF fender with the right overdrive could handle even shred tones.
Set with a bassy EQ and my strat neck pickup, a BF fender can get a hollow, clean, smooth legato shred type tone to die for(with a chorus pedal...lol!). Set a spina TS9 in front and roll the tone back a bit on it with the gain at a bit over half mast and you got a sustaining singing lead tone, turn off the pedal and have liquid smooth chording.....ahhh
For us Fender Amp amatures, BF fender means Black Face referring to which Fender amp heads?
Bump again, Can anyone elaborate on the LX1200H?
buying used seems to be the best bang for the buck especially for a quality amp.
How about a used jcm 800?

Pretty much pre69 fender amps. I can't remember when the blackface series started though. The control panels are black, hence the name black face.
