This claims to be a 1954 Les Paul that was originally gold, but now it is a burst, yet it says NOTHING about the humbuckers in it...PAF's weren't even invented in 1954....Scam?

did you read the auction? it clearly mentions the buckers...and that is always part of the conversion. it's a 54 that was modded to look like a 59, that's all and he is very up front about that...very common mod.

To be onest, that is a pretty damn good conversion!

I still think anyone willing to pay 10k on a guitar is out of their mind.

and he rapes you on shipping too.

I think he ruined any chance of getting his money back on it the second he messed with it. C'mon now... he changed the routing, the bridge, the pickups, the finish, the tuners... in short, he butchered it. That thing is worth half of what he's listing it for.

You guys have to keep in mine...quot;59quot; conversions are pretty common, if done well these guitars are worth a good chink of money...it's still alot less that a real 59 and I'd much rather have a conversion that a reissue...that said I wish people would stop cutting up the 54/55 with the wrap around tailpiece!

this is a very nice color if you ask me

thats a really nice conversion. As for quot;raping you on shippingquot; , he is overnighting a guitar that would be insured for over 10K, what do you think that costs?

What's a PAT pickup?

As much as I'd love a '58-'60 burst, I think I'd rather have the goldtop non-conversion than the conversion.

That's what I'm trying to understand myself.

I thought the real deal PAF pickups were made from the mid-late 50s to early 60s. I didn't think late 60s pickups were desireable?

$13k isn't really that much IF the instrument is a real part of our heritage. Sure, you could buy a second hand Toyota for that much, but the Les Paul MIGHT have more long term value. The thing is, the seller doesn't present you with any heritage to try and make the sale apart from what you can physically see on the instrument and you are left to make guesses about what that might imply, possibly jumping to wrong conclusions. If it's real, surely somebody at some time in the past took a photo of it? Who owned it before?

The repaired pickup selector switch hole and the non-bookmatched top I can handle. The general look of an ancient antique I like. But I don't think I would ever be able to come to terms with the pie splice.

Besides, anyone who can afford a $10k guitar can afford an extra $150 for shipping.

Yeah that is true.
just like anyone that can afford a hummer can afford gas

I’d replace the late 60’s buckers with some Antiquities. It shouldn’t have been done, though it is quite desirable.
Gee, I'm liking the smile rotation.
Late 60's Gibson buckers are OK...I woud much prefer a vintage style Duncan bucker!

Those pickup routings look amature to me.

Now this is amateurish:
^Yes...yes it is. Maybe I'm just not seeing it right, but what's the brown stuff?
