So i'm starting to find that I want a differnt type of distortion. I have a peavey xxl stack and I use the Ultra channel for all the rythem work. Does anybody use a stompbox instead of thier amps dirty channel? (or an over drive with the distortion channel?) In the past, I always seemed to get a very over equilized sound when using stomp boxes distortion, and they always sounded like crap with the stompboxes eq and the amps eq. Does anyone know of a good pedal that doesnt sound bad at live volumes when ran through an amp?

I was thinking about checking out a Pro co rat since it doesnt have the eq knobs, but the line 6 distortion modular looks awsome too. thanx guys!

MXR? what different types of music do you play/ are you gonna use the pedal for?

there are plenty of pedals that are good, and i would actually say go to a guitar shop, either bring your guitar or find one that is similar or identical, and find an amp that is similar or identical and test some out.

Check out Tonebones quot;Classicquot; and quot;Hot Britishquot;. They are a not cheap, but they are probably the best I've ever used. Can do anything I would ever need them to.

from : localhost/the way, the soundclips dont do them justice.

I like a stompbox I can leave on all the time and then clean up the distortion with my guitar's volume control. The Rat will do that...that's how Jeff Beck uses it. My fave is the Boss DS-1 and the Duncan Pickup Booster though. Those three pedals are more like overdrive pedals than distortion pedals though.

In terms of distortion, I like the new Duncan Tweak Fuzz and my Fulltone '69 Pedal best. The '69 is like the coolest version of the old Fuzzface ever created...Jimi Hendrix tone to the max, especially through a great wah wah...like one tricked out by Stratdeluxer John Spina. John does great work and you can find him right here on this forum.

That Line6 is probably good. I just picked up a Digitech Distortion Factory that models 7 well-known dist. stompboxes and I'm lovin' it through my clean channel.

I didn't think you could do this with stomp boxes. I've never had much success with it anyway. Though I'd say if you want a straight up distortion box you can't go wrong with the Rat. I would suggest avoiding all other Rat's but the Vintage however. I think this one is by far better.

Personally, I prefer O/D's as I think they give you a wider variation of sounds. Rarely will a distortion box sound good through a heavily distorted channel. Just messy without any defination in my experiance. O/D's you can run through either channel and get good results. I'm currently using a Homebrew Power Screamer which suppasses anything I've ever heard/used/seen. It's like a Tube Screamer but better, more gain I think. And you get a very wide scope of sounds from this thing. Three diode types. Around $154 from Ebay.

Thanks,
