I converted my MiM Tele to a much cooler looking, smooth sounding FrankenTele inspired by EVH. My modest tribute to the master. Pickups were planned to be dual Seymour '59 models direct-mounted, but one at the bridge sounded better. I love how it turned out, but I love how it sounds best of all. Pics in chronological order, video at bottom Huge neck cavity, for some reason. Plus weird holes on the right.Testing to make sure it will work before stripping the nice Fender paint job:-O

Thanks , you're the best!

first play video -- Righteous!!! (1.8 MB WMV). Marshall MG30DFX with built-in delay.

That's sick and wrong -- but also very cool!

That's really cool and without doubt Very different!! in a good way though

Now that is something I haven't seen before, an EVH striped Tele. I love it.

Oddly enough i'm looking for a MIM tele in the original colour that thing was..... 2 humbuckers as well... I have stripped a few guitars in the past for EVH type guitars... one of them was kind of cool! These days i make my own bodies once in a while and from now on i'll just build a body rather then strip one for a EVH style guitar.... It's less work in some ways and more in others... But it's cheaper for sure to make your own body

Heh I like that...then again I have a weakness for different guitars.

I love it!how exactly did you get the finish off?

You go man!!! Very cool!

Good job! What kind of paint were you using?

Thanks . My original plan was actually to have blue stripes showing through with black on top like the yellow-through-black VH II guitar. When I was chiseling out the bridge pickup cavity, I noticed the original paint flaking off really easily and leaving bare wood. Basically I chiseled all the paint off as gently as I could by hand and it came off in large pieces. The back was somewhat more work but it turned out OK. I left the paint on the sides because there was a lot of adhesive and the paint wasn't coming off easily. There were tons of chisel marks on the back after taking it off and I had to use putty to smooth it all over:

Rustoleum Professional, high gloss. Lightly sanded and covered with Rustoleum clear high gloss lacquer. In retrospect, flat would have been better for the paint, which would leave the shine to the lacquer. This is my first and only guitar and I didn't like how it sounded, so look where things went . I intended this project to be a warmup for the next one, which will be a true Frankenstrat.

P.S. the small stripes are automotive pinstripes, just like the original EVH guitar (see guitarattack.com, whom I credit for inspiring me to do this project). They're under the lacquer to make sure they don't peel easily. Before taking out neck pickup

Very cool, very original idea.

Nice!

Thanks, as a beginner I appreciate the comments even more.

I think a pretty cool, modern take on the EVH stripes would be a pewter base coat and silver stripes....
